This place has really good food and great service. The server we had was super nice and was open to talk and share personal attributes about herself. The only problem with the service was that it took them way to long to bring us menus. They even added in a free complimentary soup In with our meal. Which was REALLY good. Their menu was all really cheap and tasted really good. It had a huge tasty variety. The food was all portioned so well. For it being so cheap I'm surprised it was so good, and so much of it. My last complaint was is the cleanliness of the bathroom. It was a little different with a rusty sink spout and a really sticky floor. I loved the theme and design they had in their restaurant. It had a nice cozy old timey cottage feel. The room was perfectly lit and the servers were so nice. The whole place was really quiet and not busy at all. Big thanks to the cools and our waitress. You guys really did do a good job. I would definitely recommend going here!

Mixed Feelings. While the food was good. The hospitality was not. After sitting right by the cashier for about 10 minutes I finally had the turn around and ask for a menu. The waitress that assisted me took my order politely enough but told me she would NOT be bringing me my “principio” because the soup was cold. However when another patron sat in the table next to me, he was quickly served and given his cup of soup. Will I return? Probably not. I do not appreciate waiting a whole 37 minutes for a simple dish during a 30 minute lunch. Oh well…Although I was eager to see what all the hype was about, I was quickly let down by the torn chairs, crooked tables and not so friendly staff. Hopefully the new establishments that are arriving to Rio can help steer the crowd towards better service overall.

Just finished sightseeing at The Groto and La Bordie House in Rio Grande City and wanted a snack and drink to hold us over until dinner. Walked up the hill to The Texas Cafe and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is down home friendly, laid back and nostalgic, with walls covered in pictures that will take you back in time. They created plenty for our group to talk about during the meal. We were only needing drinks and a snack so decided to order a plate of tacos to share like an appetizer. We were surprised to receive bowls of vegetable beef soup as a starter and it was hearty and delicious. The tacos were quite the plateful and loaded with ingredients. The staff were amazingly friendly and service was exemplary. Hope to return to try a full meal in near the future.
