To me this is a true American diner from the decor to the food. My husband, his uncle and I came here for lunch and my husband and I were both surprisingly pleased with our food. Because of that, we went back the next day and brought my husband’s 93 year old grandma with us for lunch. She had a plain old burger (just the way she likes it), and I had the chicken fried steak with eggs and my husband had the favorite breakfast with green chili and convenes beef hash. I rate the food 5 stars because they are cooked well, presented well, and the serving is generous. I rate the service 4 starts because it takes a while to be served (seated and asked for drinks), but maybe because the place is always packed. But the servers were sweet and friendly. I rate the atmosphere 5 stars because the vibe is just relaxing and conducive to eating meals. There is a buzz because of people talking but it’s not loud and noisy. The place is also clean. The tables are clean and even the matted floor is always kept clean. It’s just a real nice food place to eat at. Note: always read the posted hours because there are days that the place closes early. There is a lot of good things going on for this cafe and one is it’s location, as it is located at a gas station too with...
Read moreSaturday morning, cafe built into a gas station, somewhat like a truck stop...pretty good! Simple menu, actually very simple. One page for breakfast and opposite side for lunch. That's okay though. The prices were reasonable and all three of us enjoyed our food which came out hot with generous portions. My eggs were richer than normal and may have been from a local source. I had ham, which was fork tender and my sour dough toast (only one slice, but it was large) was fresh and very good. The hash browns were probably factory made, but at least cooked well. Mom had a senior selection of French toast that she enjoyed and said her egg was also tasty and cooked perfectly. The only less than great thing was the service. I had to get up to ask for moms coffee and my wife's soda long after ordering it. We also finally gave up waiting for our check and just went up to the register to pay. Two waitresses were playing on their phones while we waited before giving up. I used to own a restaurant and no way would allow cell phones to be out. Not only are they distractions, but are also very, very laden with bacteria. I still left a moderate tip for the food coming out...
Read moreFood: My party's total order consisted of pancakes, bacon, eggs over easy and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns had zero browning, and they were cold. 4 eggs were ordered over easy, but they were all over medium or over hard (no runniness to the yolk).
Service: Our waitress was very unfriendly, and there were 3 other waitresses standing around chatting while the floor and tables remained dirty. The hashbrowns were virtually untouched, but no one cared to ask why. Toward the end of our meal, a fight broke out in the kitchen, which can clearly be seen from the dining area. Yelling and dishes slamming were loudly heard.
I will not be going back, and I will suggest that nobody else does either.
The 7-Up I got from the attached convenience store was pretty...
