I am an avid Bahn Mi consumer. Having just moved to a new city in NC where there aren’t any restaurants that make Bahn Mi I knew what I wanted first thing when I got to Roanoke. The location was super easy to find for visitors and once I opened my door the brilliant smells of Pho broth was in the air. So right off the bat I knew Viet Sub was a winner. My wife ordered the small beef Pho and I got a veggie Bahn Mi and a Thai tea. The Bahn Mi was very carrot heavy and the flavor was a bit more nutty than the Bahn Mis I have had previously. But my tastebuds sorta got carried away and having spent almost 8 months with no Euro Asian fusion cuisine I basically blacked out and noticed the Sandwich was gone. LOL My wife said her pho was very good and the broth was phenomenal. The Thai tea was normal and I didn’t see a boba option but it quenched my thirst none the less. All in all the Bahn Mi is next level but you may take your first bite and realize it’s your last. Because once it hits your taste buds you get a bit of an out of body experience.

Great food, traditional and non-Americanized. Service is friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend the bahn mi and pho. (Especially as the weather cools down) Not much seating room, but there is a small outdoor area for nice weather days. The establishment itself is a bit dated and could use some renovations but it surely doesn’t affect the taste of their delicious food. Maybe the best pho in town, and “The Beast” Banh Mi is a MUST. We order take-out from here as well, everything is always fresh and well prepared. Prices are fair, best for a lunch time visit / early afternoon. **Does get busy in the evenings. And around lunch time. Call and order ahead or be prepared to wait for take-out. They do well to keep up with a high demand in a small establishment. Check hours. Sometimes not open on random days. Cafe su da is a bit sweet for my taste, and they do pre-mix so you don’t have an option to reduce the condensed milk amount. A must try if you appreciate a sweeter coffee!

This is a classic hidden gem! One of those blink and you miss kind of places that relies primarily on word of mouth referrals. It’s a self order place with a super friendly person to take your order and reasonably prompt service. They have a good vegetarian selection with generous portions and very reasonable prices. We tried the Banh-hi (subs) with tofu and they were delicious and filling. Also tried the noodle bowl which is basically rice noodles, deep fried tofu with an assortment of veggies like cucumber, lettuce, carrots, daikon and some very hot jalapeños sprinkled with peanut crumbs. We took with peanut sauce (comes typically with fish sauce). Their Vietnamese cold coffee is a must try! Enjoyed the food. Highly recommended!

Tweeks Home Town Food Review: Whenever I come up to Roanoke for a medical appt, I try to swing my Viet Sub. It's where all my Vietnamese friends eat, so it's legit! They of course have great pho.. but if you have not had Ban Mi (traditional Vietnamese/French-influenced) sub with a cup of pho broth for dipping, it blows American French Dip sandwich out of the water.. especially with their spicy mayo, veggies and nuc mom dipping sauce. NOM! NOM!
