Tweeks Home Town Food Review: Just up the road from me, this seedy little local Vietnamese place isn't too bad. I would go here for pho but several of the other dishes seem too Americanized. I ordered the chicken lemongrass with chili and it's not what I would expect for a traditional chicken lemongrass (which should be just chicken, and minced lemongrass, garlic, chili and brown sugar). This version had very little chicken in it (mostly green & red peppers), and I only had a couple of bites that I could actually taste any lemongrass in. Also, the sauce was thick and goopy (probably thickened with corn starch).. so again, more like Americanized Chinese food than Vietnamese. Still.. the flavors were still pretty good overall. On the plus side.. I found a new Asian hot sauce that I liked since Sriracha went out of business.

Most dishes are fresh and tasty! There are a few items on the menu that we think could use improvement, or possibly more attention. We find this spot best for lunch time between 12-3pm. There’s also a small market in the back with lots of options for snacks, food, meat, noodles, teas, etc etc etc. from different Asian countries that you wouldn’t normally find in stores around Roanoke. They are short on help, but rarely ever get so busy that you may feel ignored. The cook and wait staff / host do a great job getting you everything you need. Building is old, dated and in need of repair in just about every corner. Although they do a great job of keeping the eating areas clean. Bathrooms desperately need renovations.

Put in a take-out order of Pho and picked it up within 15 minutes, super fast service and the ingredients all being separated ensured the broth was still nice and warm when I got home. Loved that the extra sauces were also included so I could spice up the flavor of the broth a bit. All of the ingredients seemed fresh and flavorful and there were definitely enough noodles. However having tried many pho at other places this broth felt like it was missing... something? I have no idea what the taste is, but this is like 90% there. Something that has you smacking your lips where you can't wait until the next bite, I only felt that way when I started mixing in the sauces.

This is my go- to place for excellent Vietnamese food!! I have come here over 10 times. Several times solo and a few times with my girlfriend. Usually go by myself.............The food is always good....... I recommend trying the beef and trying different soups. Also the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken dish is a must try. An absolute must try I'm telling you its AMAZING.

I do have a couple complaints though! 1. They often will say they are out of things, which is annoying. 2. Another annoying thing is the staff. The lady who is the manager, she's actually not vietnamese, rather chinese. She's really annoying!!! I have heard her several times complaining about customers and belittling them, after they have left! that really turned me off to the restaurant in some ways. She has very little people skills, but I guess she can be friendly sometimes!

There is a male waiter, i think he is related to that manager. Maybe her son? He came to my table one time and just hovered by my table talking to me, nearly the entire time i was there. He seemed desperate for a friend, or someone to talk to!!! I cant stand that guy. I felt uncomfortable just being around him. I gave him several cues I was uncomfortable and he ignored all of them! either he ignored them or couldnt pick up on them.... one or the other!!! This guy has also came to my table several times on several different visits and insulted, complained about and said very degrading things about customers he served during the day.

I have heard several people say they are annoying and strange here.... Anyway Putting that aside!!! I come for the food! I have gotten to where I just get a to- go bag though. Because lately I don't like being in there and eating. Too uncomfortable!!!! You can guess why!

Oh. lastly I heard they opened a new little asian market inside the back of the building. Might check it out on my next visit....

Overall for Pho...

The people who give this absolute hidden gem low ratings are the kinds of people that are constantly pessimistic about everything and that were raised with a silver spoon up their you-know-what…

Alright, so maybe the inside or outside don’t look that great—okay? Sure. You come here for the FOOD. The FOOD tastes delicious like it was made with love and it is fresh every single time. You will likely receive more food than you can eat for what I’d consider to be cheap!

I’m talking about high quality, fresh food that is HEALTHY for you on top of everything! Healthy and delicious make a great combo! The service is great and you will be checked on frequently for your drink or anything else that you might need. If you can get over the atmosphere, you might find that it actually brings a little AUTHENTICITY to your meal.

Do NOT believe the people stating that the food isn’t good. They are lying through their teeth and keeping a good, honest business down. I always order a No. 14 with a No. 1 on the side. I put all of the add-ins in the Pho—Thai basil, bean sprouts, a couple Thai chili pepper slices, and a squeeze of lime (these things always arrive at your table fresh as well!)—I mix it all around. I like to add a couple drops of hoisin sauce, I go crazy with a little sriracha zig-zagged over the top like Tony Bourdain, and then I mix it all in.

You can do the same as me, or you could leave it completely alone and eat it as-is. Either way, it is D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. The broth is full of aroma and umami. The ingredients are fresh. I’m taken to a different planet every time that I eat here and I always return home feeling so happy and full.

Pho Viet Nam is totally worth the trip for a bite or three! Or one hundred! You won’t be disappointed. Go out and try the best Pho in Roanoke City today, you...

This was our first time here, there was 3 of us and as we walked in we felt awkward as the waiter said to sit anywhere. As we began to order my brother wanted the Shrimp Lo mein and me and our granny wanted the chicken but they had to be separate due to my granny being very allergic to shrimp. Our waiter gave us a confused look and went to get someone else. He looked confused as well but he seemed to understand because when we got her food she didn't have an allergic reaction thankfully. They didn't even ask what we wanted to drink and just gave us water that tasted like water from the faucet (hard water). The lo mein was covered in basil and tasted like just basil which made the whole dish kind of bland with just that taste. We didn't enjoy the lo mein. It said it was about 8$ for each dish but our total for 3 people came out to be 39$ which was crazy seeing how it should of been close to 30$ not 40$ if you include tax. When we were done we didnt know who was getting our check because they all sat behind us to eat which was weird. I finally told my family to just get up and walk toward the register in Hope's that one of them gets up to let us pay and leave. It was good to try the place out because we aren't going there again haha. I normally don't do reviews but it was just that bad of that says anything. Mine and my brothers stomachs...
