Charlie’s Eatery & Pub — Restaurant in Rochester

Post-powwow supper. Quiet at the hour, but the service was as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as they would have been at breakfast.

First Saturday off in a long time, so I had the prime rib.

I learned the hard way to order 'medium' at most places when steak is involved- far too often 'medium rare' winds up being cold (if not frozen) in the center, which isn't fun for anybody.

With medium you'll hit that balance of pink in the middle but warm throughout, and if it's under it's medium rare and I can work with that.

In this case, 'medium' was hit squarely, horseradish was creamy and not too strong, and the au jus wasn't needed.

Got to love a steak you can cut with a butter knife.

Just wish somebody had ordered the ham steak, but then you don't see a ham steak offered all that often anymore.

With the loss of Perkins and Bakers Square, places like Charlies and Grandma's Kitchen have had more business but had to step up to accommodate increased numbers in their normal demographics (40+, American cuisine).

I ordered the chicken wings and they were very dark overly cooked and dried out so I asked him if I could get a new order the 2nd order came back the same way and then the management came over and said that's how they cook them while other people commented how the chicken was coming out so dark and dry and she got really Snoddy with me and made a comment well we'll have to watch for you when you come in and do special orders for you so I hardly eat there when she's there because I don't need that kind of treatment from management so be careful I think She is very rude to me and then she said I complained about another meal all I said that it was a little spicy for me and I ate it I didn't complain and say wanted to change it and never said it was spicy food on it so I didn't know and I have very bad stomach problems so I couldn't eat at all and she was very rude about that so I will not eat there when she's there anymore she doesn't know how to be nice to customers and she like I said...

This is a very unique bar/ restaurant/ event spot. It really has everything. I just recently learned there was a restaurant separate from the Event area and the bar 😮.

So if you enter from the north entrance, that is where you will find the restaurant. It’s a very casual, quiet, relaxing space. If you go around to the west side of the building and go through that door, you will have the option of going right or left.

The left side will take you to the event area. If you go to the right, it will take you to the bar/pub area which often has live music and is a bit louder and busy than the restaurants space. There certainly is something for everyone here.
