This restaurant takes the prize for the most disgusting experience we have ever had at a restaurant. When we first walked in we were greeted by the strong smell of the bathroom at the entrance - yuck! Then we sit down at the table and see that under the glass of the table it is packed full of advertisements for various businesses - we couldn't help but feel like the restaurant was making money off of us just by having customers sit in front of a pile of advertisements. Then the menu is sticky, covered in probably some sort of dried sugary beverage. And finally, when the enchilada with mole sauce arrives it literally is canned metallic tasting mushy chicken wrapped in a tortilla and covered in a overly sweet tasting chocolate sauce. When we visit restaurants, many are great, a lot of them are fine, some are passable, but I can think of only 2 times in the past decade that we have gone out and couldn't make it through the first few bites of of our entrees before being too disgusted to continue - one time was at an airport in London, and the other was at this restaurant. Maybe we showed up on a day that the normal staff wasn't able to make it so they brought in someone that doesn't normally prepare food? Well, there are some awesome Mexican purveyors in Rochester, so we absolutely won't be giving this one...
Read moreI was seated quickly way towards the back at lunch. I don't believe the server knew I was there. I waited for 20 minutes, and he walked by a couple times. It was only when someone was seated across the aisle and made a remark that I had yet to be served that he came. He waited on them first. Which was fine as I had time. I didn't get chips and salsa til after my order came. I showed the server my list of allergies in Spanish, but he seemed to space out. I told him also that these were severe food allergies. I asked for no guacamole on my taco salad due to my allergies. When my salad arrived, it had a dollop of guacamole. I stopped and told him it needed to be remade as I was allergic to guacamole. He said, "Oh, you don't like guacamole." I said I'm allergic to it. After a while, he brought out my food for the second time, but when I was almost done with the salad, I could tell they did NOT remake it- they only took the guacamole dollop off, fixed up the lettuce, and brought it back out. Thankfully, I saw the guacamole smeared on the tortilla's edge and stayed far away from that area. This was the worst visit...
Read moreThe restaurant is brightly lit and appears to be recently repainted. Service was great. And the sangria was tasty. Mango margaritas were a hit with one member of our party and too sweet for others.
My companions enjoyed their combo platters with a variety of items. One said the best thing was the pork tamal. (Not a "tamale" with corn husk wrapper.) Two of our party members mentioned they liked the chilis rellenos.
From my perspective be careful on the "vegetarian" menu. The rice has chicken broth. The staff has assured me the beans are not larded. The vegetarian fajitas were fine and can be served with corn or flour tortillas. The guacamole is fresh and very good.
Like most older buildings there is no handicapped entrance so you may need help with the doors. There are tables near the front where they can remove chairs for a wheelchair.
All in all if you don't have dietary concerns they do a decent job. Service is good and food comes out fresh, hot,...
