This restaurant has great food, but the service sucks. The cooks are great, but the people taking orders really need to improve. This is the worst restaurant to call in or order or to try to call and make an order. They hardly never pick up and when they do, they ask you to come in and go and pay for the order. To then start your order. Like the whole reason of me calling ahead is for my order to be ready. So I get there not to have to go and put the order again at the register. Like, are you for real? I'm the reason I call is to have them start my order. But they don't, you'll get there. They'll charge you, then. They'll start your order. On top of the bad communication and not picking up the phone to take the orders. The old lady that works there with the glasses not the best professional, to be honest, I think she's kind of racist or discriminatory towards certain people.Me being one of them She offered everybody the little sauce cups. When they put in their orders, but when I did, she did not totally rude, treated me like she did not want to take my order. But one of the worst part was after in the grocery area. I went to pay for my juices that I bought with my card. The total amount was $3. And some change. The lady at the register, which is a skinny lady with glasses. What's telling me that she couldn't take the payment cuz.It was just three dollars that I had to make it more than four dollars. She was obligating me practically to grab another drink for .She could charge me my first two drinks to make it more than $4. How can you obligate a person to waste more in your establishment? Because you don't want to charge what you're supposed to charge. Overall, things need to change in this grocery slash restaurant. As far as customer service and discrimination i felt very discriminated at this location. And almost obligated to buy a product I didn't need just because they did not want to charge me three dollars. And some change out of my card. The lady wanted to make it more for then. She could charge me and on top of that she told me it will be the last time she would cut me a break because she had to charge me what she was supposed to.And I did not get another drink. That's crazyFeeling almost obligated to have to buy another drink at this location. For they could charge...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo the Guanajuato Grocery store is a staple in the Mexican/Latin community on that side of town.
I had lived in Rockford for YEARS and even though I always hear of it, I never visited until maybe about a year ago. You can find pretty much anything here.
I remember when I first walked in, I saw how neatly organized the store was and how stocked it was too, my first impression of the outside was like meh.. not too much to think about, but inside itās impressive how everything is well stocked and is very clean and organized. They have a bakery where they make DELICIOUS Tres leches cakes, they have a restaurant where everyone swears the tacos are the best in Rockford, and boyfriend loves them and the fact that they have a self serve salsa bar. Iāve had tamales that are very good, food doesnāt disappoint .
The workers at the produce section are not messing around, they are fast, friendly and they keep everything stocked and organized, they honestly deserve a raise, Iāve never seen people enjoy what they do as much as them, with big smiles and very helpful when you ask. If I could change anything it would be the customer service on the phone, I recently called and ask if they had tamales available that weekend and the young girl said yes and hung up. I wasnāt done speaking and hung up on me as I was asking a second question.
Something to mention as far as parking, it is located on an iffy side of town, but itās somewhat safe to stop by in the mornings or early afternoons, parking unfortunately has imperfections and trash all over. Sometimes there are not parking spaces left to park in, so if youāre handicap or in a rush, plan to get there with enough time just in case there isnāt anything available right away. Hoping for a better, well lit parking lot in the future.
I highly recommend Guanajuato for anyone looking for Mexican meds, good tamales, cakes and food from the restaurant area. The pricing for canned goods and grocery items are a bit up there, I normally go somewhere else for that. I still give it a 5āļø rating for all the neat finds...
