Located of of Auburn st near Central Ave . We came for the Weekend buffet because it had Menudo, posole and tamales. The Menudo and posole had way too many bones in it large bones and little bones that i feel smaller kids could choke on and not enough stock so it was dry. The tamales were good they were moist with a good masa to meat ratio. The buffet was served in metal double-sided serving trays that you could only access from one side of the counter because the other side is for staff and was little difficult to maneuver and access because there were so many people. The music was way to loud that the servers couldn't hear you and had to speak loudly or people closer to them had to repeat what you said. We paid 19.99 for the buffet which was high priced considering the setup and not being able to get to the items in the back of the serving trays because you have to be careful with the lids and hot food but considering it has speciality items like Tameles and menudo maybe about right. There were also slot machines right in The front of the restaurant were people just sat and drank beer and hung out they had a back area of the restaurant where no one was seated I feel like that would have been a better place for the slots as crowded as it was dinning tables would have been better used in the front space and removing that counter and putting an actual buffet space that people could access food from both sides safely without risk of scalding yourself would be better setup. Kids didn't like the buffet so they ordered Tacos which they didn't like the corn tortillas I wish they used El Milagro brand tortillas like the Taquria inside the Chiquita grocery store on South Main St which i think has the best SteakTacos in Rockford. Also they don't serve Creama here which is a Mexican sour cream that melts on the hot Tacos and makes them taste so good it was on the menu and cost 1.49 extra(high price anyway) but server said they didnt have it. I love the tables and chairs the Day of the dead decor and the staff was very nice. The drinks were very large a good size and Tasted goodðthey came in Mason jars I liked that. I'm thinking about coming back but probably not to soon I'm going to follow the reviews and see if they make some updates it was really great that there's a Mexican buffet available to us in Rockford just needs to feel more like a restaurant and less like a party with the loud music and slots and non dinning guest lingering around and also having to shout for...
Read morePosting about the weekend buffet that is absolutely amazing! The food is literally the best versions of celebration dishes that would be served at family parties. On both of my visits, I hit both Saturday (a little less crowded) and Sunday, each dish was perfectly prepared and the serving trays were kept filled.
Standouts include was melt-in-your-mouth tender Chicken Mole (chicken with a savory chocolate sauce), Red and Green Enchiladas, Flautas (rolled fried tortillas with a filling--they had potato, which I loved), Shrimp Fajitas, Chicken Tenga (shredded chicken in a spicy sauce), Tamales, Homemade Refried Beans, Mexican Rice, and my favorite dish of all, Chili Relleno (roasted poblano peppers with a melted cheese filling that is dipped in an egg batter and fried). I try to avoid eating meat, so that I was delighted to have so many vegetarian and chicken entrees to enjoy at a buffet, but if you're into beef and pork, there were plenty of meat dishes to select from, as well.
The restaurant offers fresh homemade tortillas, a sure sign of a quality Mexican restaurant, for making tacos. Be sure to place an order for them with your wait person once you sit down (as they take a few minutes to prepare and you could be filling your plate and have tortillas ready for when you return). I like to place a small plate on top to keep the tortillas warm.
As a previous person noted, there may be a toothpick holding the cheese stuffing within the Chili Relleno, however, you should be slicing the peppers into bite-size pieces and easily remove any toothpicks before eating them on a tortilla with beans and salsa. Salsas were mild to medium, be sure to test them, first, to make sure that you can tolerate the heat as that can vary.
Just a wonderful selection of dishes along with soup and dessert options. The atmosphere was a blast, changing seasonal decor (my pics are from Valentine's), brightly colored walls and super comfortable booths and tables. ...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this location on a thursday early afternoon.First time visiting I ordered 3 steak tacos and my wife an order of quesabirria. Nothing special on the steak tacos, regular seasoned steak. I had 2 options on the tortillas, regular or handmade. I went with the regular, big mistake, The tortilla didn't have flavor, tasted like those cheap walmart tortillas that come in a pack of 30. Tacos are not something you drive across town for. The quesabirria order wasn't any better. The tortilla shell wasn't crispy enough and it was very dry. The meat didn't have much flavor and the cheese needed to be more melted. They put too much cheese that it over powers the quesadilla.
I really wanted this place to be good.. we live so close to it that we wanted to make it or regular spot. The stage is great, friendly and very attentive. The actual place is very clean and vibrant with colorful colors.
I will visit again to try some of the platter meals and hopefully...
