The closest Chinese food you're going to get when compared to Chicago. They cook the rice dark like I love it. They follow instructions thoroughly. I don't like how they charge for extra sweet and sour sauce meaning not the yummy red sauce that usually comes with crab rangoons which there's doesn't or sweet and sour chicken be prepared to just get the packets and if those aren't enough they charge extra per packet. They only accept cash which is great for them but not so good for customers just because of the area you really don't want to be walking around with cash on you. They charge extra for hot pepper oil. Also I love fried chicken wings from the Chinese restaurant but they don't sell them here. But all around if you're looking for flavorful Chinese food dark brown fried rice without the peas carrots etc.. then you have come to the right place. The fried rice isn't the only thing that was a deciding factor for me. I'm not a fan of egg foo young unless it's made right and baby when I tell you I love their combination egg foo young. The gravy is so flavorful and they give you a lot for the price. Definitely a must try if you're ever in the Rockford area! I recommend any of the fried rice pepper steak egg foo young general tso chicken chicken and broccoli sesame chicken sweet and sour chicken or shrimp chop suey crab rangoons egg rolls spring rolls orange chicken and more. Oh did I forget to mention the lunch specials area hit so if you want to try a few things do like me go around lunch time order 2 or 3 things for the price you would pay for 1.5 if you're ordering after lunch. You'll...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love American style Chinese food, not a fan of the authentic stuff. I tried this place once and ordered the Mongolian beef. It was not like any other Mongolian beef Iāve ever encountered from any Chinese place. It was basically a container filled with filler and onions, with a tiny bit of beef mixed in. The amount of meat included was so small and the quality of the meat was like dog food. They put some of those cheap crushed red pepper flakes in there, which I guess is what makes it āMongolianā beef to them. Most places with Mongolian beef have those white crispy rice puffs or whatever they are called thrown in, but they seemed to have no clue what I was talking about when I asked about it. Huge disappointment, will never go here again.
The place is run down and dirty, they often wonāt answer the phone, but despite all that Iād still give them a high rating had the food been better. I canāt believe they have the nerve to serve something this awful and charge money for a box full of onions and dog food meat. Itās embarrassing. Chinese food is expensive compared to other fast food and the quality should be much much better than this. Felt ripped off coming here instead of another Chinese food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been to many Chinese takeout. My favorite are the hot and sour soup and pork fried rice.
Wong Wong is the Chinese takeout that you can rely on. They are fast. And, they only take cash.
Granted, there are some foods on the menu that could rubs you the wrong way. But, the popular foods, including the Won Ton soup, you can definitely appreciate.
Between the good chinese restaurant, Wong Wong makes the best hot and soup. They don't hold back with the vegetable and probably used beef broth. The chicken broth would have made the flavor lighter tasting. But, for the like of eating good food, the beef broth hvae a huge fusion impact with the vegetables.
I recommend to order the:
Won Ton soup Hot and soup soup Schzwan(?) pork fried rice
Remember, as soon as you place the order over the phone, you have 14-15 minutes to show up. So, if you are in like the Broadway area in Rockford, they would have it ready as soon as you arrive.
However, I don't recommend Wong Wong as a place to sit down for like a date. It is better to eat it at home...
