While we really wanted to love Cool River Pizza, our first visit was less than stellar. The food itself was really good, but we were not thrilled with the business practices.
Upon arrival at around 6:00 on a Saturday, we went to order an Extra Large pizza, but we were told that they were out of extra large dough. The person at the counter offered to have the kitchen stretch a large dough to fit an extra large, but it would be a thin crust. OR we could order 2 mediums.
First, how does a business run out of dough before peak hours on a Saturday? Second, offering us the option of 2 mediums at a 48% upcharge from what would be the original amount, seems almost too advantageous. Maybe if we were offered a discount for the inconvenience?
We placed our order for a large and some bread sticks instead, and sat down. Then, after looking at our receipt, we noticed a 5% surcharge for using our credit card. Nowhere in the restaurant or menu was this noted, nor were we told of this as we were paying. We sucked it up, but at this point, we were feeling pretty irritated.
We didn't have to wait long for our pizza, and it was delivered to our table by a friendly and courteous employee. He left and we realized we didn't have any plates, and we needed napkins. We had to get up and ask for those. Not a big deal, but definitely added salt to the wound.
Once we were able to eat, we were impressed with the pizza. The crust and toppings had good flavor and balance. If it were just about the pizza, we'd recommend Cool River, but everything else left a pretty bad taste in our mouths. It just felt lacking in customer service and honesty, which can go a long way, and made our visit...
Read moreWe wanted to try this place out again because we remembered it being good from a couple years ago. We walked in and stood at the cash register for 5 minutes before having to ring the bell to get someone to come up to help us. After we ordered, the lady (presumably the owner) walked away without giving us our drink cups. We had to ring the bell again to get her to come back to give them to us. When we got the pizza, the little girl who brought it to us acted like we were speaking gibberish to her when we asked her for plates to eat from. The parmesan twists were sad to say the least. They were severely undercooked and had little to no actual parmesan on them. The pizza tasted like a baked lunchable pizza, straight from a box. Not only is the food terrible, but it took as 4 tries to find a table that wasn’t sticky. My husband finally just had to wipe a table down using one of the three napkins we were able to find, and water from the soda machine. The games that they have there are all falling apart at the seams. Overall, I don’t recommend this place unless you want to spend $50 on a lunchable pizza, horrible service, and...
Read moreUpdate August 2023: We recently had a team meet and greet for soccer at Cool River and the owners and staff were amazing! 14 families and 14 energetic youth plus siblings fit really well in the semi-private room. We brought in an extra table and it was perfect. The owners were really great and extended the Monday special to my massive pre-order. Highly recommend this place for team parties.
*March 2023: We had our end of season flag football luncheon at Cool River Pizza and I'm surprised I haven't heard more about this place. They were super nice and welcoming. There is a section in the back that is a semi-private room which was perfect for our team. There is also a larger section adjacent to their outdoor patio which would be perfect for Spring, Summer, and Fall groups as well.
Service was great and they were very nice and accommodating to our energetic crowd. I ordered two pizzas and wings and we enjoyed. Their servings are generous and I ended up with leftovers for a...
