tl;dr this has to be a top contender for gyros in the DMV.
The main meat: We noticed this place a few months back and the place looked interesting. So the next time me and the wife were home on a weekday, and she was up for a lunch date with the kids in school (yes that is a date), we stopped by Gyroland to give it a try.
The cool and pleasant decor was welcoming and I could hear the waves crashing on to the Greek shores (in my mind). All I was missing was my khaki shorts and shirt, and leather flip flops!
The owner met us at the counter and gave us a brief history of this place. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they are tied to Mykonos Grill - our favorite Greek restaurant - when we have a few $$ to spare!
The menu is quite a good representation of the cuisine. Did I mention that we are fans of Greek food and have drive across state lines to satisfy our cravings for good Greek food!
We settled on the Mix Grill Platter since it promised us a full tour of the land on a plate. The place was quite busy for a weekday lunch hour. And folks looked happy chomping down their food.
Service was quick and we were quite happy with the food. It was a big plate with generous portions of Lamb and Beef gyro, one burger, sausage, skewer of chicken, lots of pita bread, a bucket of fries, with onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce.
All the food seemed made fresh with no frozen taste!
I'm not much of a chicken guy but this was something else - perfectly marinated with great flavors and tender meat! I had to fight my wife for my share of the skewer!
The gyro was tender and well seasoned too and not dry - which is how I like it.
The burger was fresh and went well with the tzatziki sauce.
There was a good serving of fresh and perfectly crisp fries to go along with the food.
The quantity was good and had half a serving left over for dinner later :)
The decor, the service, the ambiance, and of course the food is what will bring us back to this place over and over again.
Rockville, meet your next go...
Read moreDon't even think about calling this a gyro place! The variety of Greek foods here is astounding. The quality, flavor and presentation is totally top shelf. The atmosphere is relaxed yet fresh. I could come here and work remotely, productively, all day. Please, please, please, try the Greek coffee! It is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Not acidic and the best compliment with the food. No bitterness and no irritation to the stomach. I would normally never have coffee and food together for this reason but this Greek coffee is the remedy for that. Gonzalo was kind enough to explain the process of making the coffee. Please talk to him. He takes great pride in the sacrifices he makes in order to guarantee the best quality and flavor. The desserts! OMG, the desserts! Have any of them or all of them. I've been raving to my friends and family about this place since I first tried their hummus and baklava during the pandemic. Don't pass this place by. It is totally worth stopping in and having a lovely sit down meal or getting it to-go. You will want to return...
Read moreThis is far better than any gyro I never ate in Greece. ( In Greece, you get free flies with your Gyro and your choices there are chicken, chicken, or chicken) I just wanted a gyro w/lamb but it only comes with mixed meats of beef and lamb. I begrudgingly ordered the only option, picked my soda from the soda r2d2 receptacle and waited.....it took longer than expected but being with good company, I didn't find the need to pull out my inner 'karen" from my back pocket. To my surprise it was really delightful! They make them to order and the girls behind the counter in plain view were like that Indian Diety with 6 arms slinging spatulas and knives, but in an organized manner. The fries come ON the Gyro and the sauce is perfect. For the record don't try to practice your grenglish here, the cashier is from Argentina. This venue is owned by the same person who owns Mykonos Grill on Congressional Lane who wanted a venue a little more affordable to the public. A kind of PPO Restaurant if you will. As opposed to a Concierge. I...
