My wife and I could not have been more in love with our experience. We were in Rockville for the day and were looking for a place to eat. This was this first place that popped up that offered dine-in, so already a huge plus. We get there and the host/ waiter was so nice and charming. He sat us outside and cranked our own private heater up. We started with some hot tea, and our waiter impressively displayed a giant wooden box filled with teas for us to choose from. We each got our own little porcelain tea pots to pour from. It was a very unique and engaging experience. For the appetizer, we ordered the mango and french brie quesadilla. The term "quesadilla" is very liberally used with this dish as it it more like finger sandwiches on waffles. Semantics aside, the addition of the fruit preserve and fresh jalapeno took this dish from mouth watering to dream haunting. I can not accurately describe the intoxicating taste and smell of this beautiful little appetizer. All I can do is emphatically recommend it to you, the reader. For the main course, the wife ordered the Croque Monsieur. This dish, I could only describe as being the brain child of a discerning consumer of a fresh Monte Cristo deciding that the sandwich would be better without currants and powdered sugar, and also on a waffle. It was fantastic and will be a big hit if you enjoy ham and Swiss cheese. My meal was notably the most novel of the afternoon. On the menu, the only item in all caps and bold font read "Giant Panko Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich". I was entranced. Why was this sandwich screaming at me from the page? Why is it the aesthetic outlier from an otherwise professional and reserved menu? What came out, a mere couple of minutes I should add, as all of our food was delivered hot and fresh to our table within a ridiculously short time frame, was gorgeous. A tower of meat, vegetables and waffles about a foot tall glided towards me and was placed squarely in front of my salivating maw. The waffle, crispy, and airy crushed easily within my grip so I could gain a proper position around this poultry and confectionary monstrosity. The taste and texture where wholly unique amd remarkable between the crisp of the waffle, the creaminess and crunch of the coleslaw, the brite burst from the tomato and mild bitterness from the fresh lettuce that helped round out the medley of all-star ingredients that made up this iconic sandwich. Dessert was hard to order because the portions here are as generous as they are staggeringly delicious. Our absolutely delightful French waiter who had been nothing short of an immaculate host, pitched to us the house raspberry Mousse. We were sold. So one Mousse, and two spoons were ordered. This dessert, dear reader, will for lack of a more illustrious term, "blow your freaking socks off". Real chocolate with tart raspberries cutting through the richness and topped with whipped creme, it's so simple in concept. The execution though, betrays the notion of simplicity with its complex textures and overwhelmingly delicious symphony of flavors. Places like these deserve all the support we can give them. It is a small team headed up by dreamers who just want a chance to turn their passion into a career. I love small businesses with all my heart and really look forward to returning to this restaurant if I ever make it back up to Rockville again. In the mean time, I hope you and your loved ones give this place a chance and...
Read moreI don’t typically write reviews but had a rather unpleasant experience at Mosaic Cuisine. My partner and I went for dinner on Friday night as it was promoted on the Maryland Restaurant Week website. When we got there they did not seem to have the menu they advertised for Restaurant Week. When we inquired, we were told the only special they had was the $12 waffle and the $87 dinner for two was always available? However it was not clear on their menu what was part of the $87 promotion. The promotion on RW feels a little misleading but we decided to just order regularly.
My partner ordered the French onion soup and salmon croquettes while I ordered the steak pommes frites. The food was ok, until I found a piece of the foil wrapping still in the compound butter. I picked it out of the plate and placed it on my appetizer plate. My partner called over one of the servers to bring it to their attention. He said he would have the kitchen take a look and took the appetizer plate away. He never came back to address it. We called a different server to bring it up again, and that server said he would speak with his manager. He walked over to the first server but I did not see him go to the manager. It then felt like they were avoiding us so we got the attention of the first server again to ask if they were going to do anything to resolve this. He just said that the kitchen is going to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. At this point, I am irritated that we’ve had to call a server 3 times only for nothing to happen, so I started to raise my voice. It’s only when I start questioning whether finding a hazard in my food was acceptable to him and what they were going to do to make things right that he said that he would speak to the manager.
The manager finally comes to our table and asks what he can do. I don’t work in the food industry, so I’m not sure if it’s normal to put the onus on the customer to resolve this. It feels awkward to ask for a new plate at this point, a solution that most restaurants OFFER as soon as a problem is brought up, so I just ask if I’m expected to pay for the meal that I couldn’t finish due to the piece of foil in it. Ultimately he removes the steak pommes frites from the check and gives a lackluster apology.
Personally, the price of my dish is not an object for me, but it’s concerning how the folks here at Mosaic Cuisine did not seem to care that a mistake they made could have caused harm to a customer. No one seemed alarmed at all when we informed them.
I understand mistakes happen, but the way the staff tried to ignore the mistake and only take action when I started to raise my voice is incredibly dismal. A customer shouldn’t have to cause a scene to have their concerns addressed. Honestly there are so many French/French-inspired restaurants in the area with better food and service, so I will not...
Read moreI didn't have the best experience. ☹️ But that doesn't mean you won't. I visited weekend morning looking for a cup of coffee and hearty breakfast. The restaurant was not too crowded, but definitely a little short on staff. I can't blame them for that considering the current status of staffing any restaurant. The wait for a table was about 10 minutes. About 5 minutes after I was seated the waitress took my order. I ordered coffee and breakfast. 10 more minutes passed and I did not even get my coffee so I left. So why would I give them FIVE Stars??? Well, I looked around and there were plenty of people enjoying their meals and coffees. The food looked delicious and other than me and one other lady that arrived just after I arrived, everyone looked to be enjoying their experience. There was also one man in front of me when I arrived. He ordered one cup of coffee to go. He had gotten his coffee by the time I got there. It took literally 10 minutes for the staff to process his payment. That man was very patient. It looked like he had ordered from the restaurant before. He did not appear to be bothered that there was no one to run his credit card for ten minutes. So why would I give them FIVE Stars?? Because it looked like they were doing their best. Some of my favorite restaurants went out of business during COVID. I do not think it is easy running a restaurant in these times. I say give them a chance, the food looked delicious. My advice is to be patient. And arrive in a compact car. The parking immediately in front of the restaurant is TIGHT. If you drive a large car just park a little further away and enjoy a short walk. Try calling ahead and using carry out. I have no idea who owns the restaurant or runs it, but the vibe I get from watching the few staff members I saw was that this is not a large chain type of restaurant. It feels more like a small business, so I am happy to try them again another day. So again, I'm giving them FIVE stars, not because I am saying they are the best and that everything for me was perfect, but because I noticed others having a good experience and no honest business deserves to get slammed of Google because one person, such as myself, had a less than desirable experience. My recommendation is to give them a...
