El Patrón Restaurant — Restaurant in Rogersville

Recently the wife and I decided to try this one out for Friday evening. We've lived here for decades and have always enjoyed the local Mexican restaurants - until this one, sadly. As we arrived, the place was hopping and very busy - which led to the first problem, namely slow service. Even though most of the bustle was for take-out orders (I watched one poor fella wait over a half hour for his), at least a third of the tables were empty, yet service was sporadic and slow. When our food arrived finally (approx. 45 minutes after ordering), my wife and I dug in hungrily - only to look at each other a couple minutes into it, saying the same word simultaneously - "blaaand". As in watered down, been on the steam table too long, bland. Now, keep in mind we weren't necessarily looking for spicy hot - we were just looking for ANY flavor at all. Sad to say, it wound up being a rather noisy (rude people and their undisciplined children, oy), long, sort of nasty (the main table right in the middle of the dining room sat un-bused the whole time we were there) and watered down sort of evening. We'll be returning to the other Mexican restaurant on 66S, which is MUCH better than this...

El Patron never fails to please. It is reasonably priced, the food is delicious, and the service is usually good. They have a couple of televisions going for the sports lovers in your group. I would highly recommend the Chorizo Chicken Rice dish. The flavor is powerful and it pairs well with the soft tortillas. They serve Coke Zero for the discerning diabetic in your party. If I had one complaint, it's that their queso blanco is a little thin. I like a thicker, more robust cheese dip. Employees friendly as I came in. Told to sit anywhere. It was 6 at night and slow. Took a little long to get my sweet tea and queso, but good came out quick. I've never seen a chimichanga look like the ones I got, nor with basically just pot roast in them. I was not offered a drink refill until the end of my meal and in fact was never checked on after my food came. The next visit waa my check. Mind you, only 4 tables in the restaurant were filled.
