Sam's Burger Deli — Restaurant in Rome

Edit - what a disappointment! I’ve had to change my previous 5 stars to 1 star. We went back for dinner on a Thursday evening and no one bothered to take our order. They seated us at a table in the front near the register and then walked around us over and over without bothering to ever stop at our table. We waited for a long time and then had to admit to ourselves that they were not going to serve us, so we left. The waitresses seemed to be more interested in something they were doing at the cash register than customers. One of the guys in the food prep area was acting so crazy, it was probably a blessing we didn’t eat anything he prepared. Original - Oh my gosh, they really do have the best hamburger! This was our first time eating here and it was soooooo good. I had the Samburger with American cheese and it was perfect. I'm hesitant to order anything made with ground beef at a restaurant because most cooks can't cook it well done without turning the outside into a piece of charcoal; but not here. It was cooked to perfection; and the cheese was melted just right. Plus, the waitress was very nice and took me seriously when I said I'm allergic to onions. When my food came out, there were no onions or onion powder on anything on my plate. My husband had the hamburger steak and it was cooked perfectly as well. It looked so good and he said it was! The girl that seated us seemed put out And borderline rude that we had 6 people and even though there were Many empty tables, we had to wait about 10 minutes for them to push 2 of them together. The food was good but definitely not semi famous status. The philly is a mixture of steak and their ground beef but was more ground beef than anything. They say their philly is big enough to share and that is pretty accurate as long as you are ordering sides. None of their Sandwiches or burgers come with fries or anything so you have to order those separate. With the 6 of us we had 5 drinks, one water, 3 fillies, one Burger, one order of fry's, one of tots and one of fried okra that we all shared. Our bill came to $90 which is high for a place like that. Under the edges of the tables was covered with gum and other grossness so don't touch that when lining up your tables. The grime that was under the edges of the plexiglass on the tabletops was unreal. You can tell they have not been taken off and cleaned in a very long time. It was a nice touch that a manager or maybe the owner (he didnt intruduce himself) came by and spoke with us about 20 minutes after we were seated. We had barely gotten our drinks. We looked around to see if we could find him before we left but didn't see him anywhere. Overall I don't really recommend this place. But it is neat as it is completely centered...

We've attempted to eat at Sam's Burger Deli several times. Once the power was out, the other times their early (5:00 p.m.) closing time on Sunday wasn't doable. But we were finally able to have a family gathering tonight-and I wish we hadn't. Our server was nice enough, but there was a really l-o-n-g wait for the food AND then only the kids got theirs. Although we could see some of our orders sitting under the warmer, it was at least another 20-25 minutes before the adults were served. So apparently part of the problem was in the kitchen, but our server never checked back in with us or apologized for the wait. (Several servers were hanging out by the register chatting it up. Waiting for their orders maybe?) When I finally received my nachos, they were glued together with the COLD cheese and, frankly, unappetizing. One of our party is a former server and doesn't like a fuss to be made, so I didn't. (I also didn't want to wait an additional half hour for something else) However, another person in our party did complain politely about her order and the server was very apologetic and compensated her. So I don't find much fault with the server except she was not very attentive. For the quality of the food, it was overpriced. Definitely not somewhere I plan to...
