Las Islas Marias — Restaurant in Romeoville

If I could give no stars I would. To my understanding as a former worker in the restaurant business (within the same restaurant business), a gratuity charge is only enforced when there are 4 adults in a table. We we're charged $23 extra for gratuity even though there was only 3 adults and 1 small child. The waitress said that if my son wouldn't have ordered food that she would of not charged the gratuity charge. Keep in mind that my husband did not eat his taco dinner because the meat tasted disgusting. He said that he would not feed a hungry dog with those tacos. I thought he was playing until I tried a small price of meat. He was right. My mom did not like the platillo de camarones a la cucaracha. She said that it tasted like the cheff just threw some Valentina on the shrimp and called it a day. I would expect better food and better service because the restaurant was empty around 12 pm. When we asked the waitress to speak to someone else to explain to us the extra charge the "manager" came over and started arguing with my husband. Her explanation did not make sense what so ever. She started talking about "bringing a lawyer" and "it says on the menu". We asked her if there was anyone else that we could speak to that was more understanding and reasonable that's when she started saying that she was the owner. This was our first time here. We are Big fans of the Isla Marias in Villa Park so we decided to give this one a try. We came for an early dinner here last week. There were just people at 2 other tables. We sat at the booth close to the door at the front windows. I saw gambling machines on the opposite side with a couple of guys playing. The guys started to go in and out smoking in front of the restaurant and we had to inhale the smoke👃while eating every time they went in and out which was disturbing, and get bursts of cold air blown at us. 🥶 They had a juke box and one of the guys gambling selected a song that began to blast so loud we couldn't hear. Thankfully someone turned it down after 2 minutes. Hence, minus one star.

Aside from that, our food was delicious and our waitress was great. We ordered two tilapia dinners with mejillones, mixed cerviche, and shrimp cocktail. Everything was perfect! Prices were average for this chain. A little pricey depending on which seafood dishes, but I feel well worth it due to the large portions. I will definitely come back. I would just sit closer to the back or the side, away...

TERRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE .I found metal bristle in my food after it pierced my gums. Customer service was bad. They gave wrong food and they forgot plates so 3 ate late after most finished their food,lady had an attitude. No utensils given. We had to share since the lady never came back after first mistakes. Coke tasted like syrup. Horchata is powder made and each cup tasted different. Fried shrimp was over cooked and tasted out the sea. Chicken was overcooked.The steak was chewy to cut through The dried birria was nasty. The coseme was good.the beans tasted sour. The lettuce had extra water. The rice was good .The alcoholic drinks were trash. The bathrooms are not kept clean through out the day,we came at night and they were horrid. The worst part is that one of the family members got sick shortly after from their meal in their own bathroom.
