First off the good: The donuts and the breakfast sandwiches are fantastic. The coffee was decent, (black coffee) but nothing stellar. The breakfast sandwich (croissant with egg and bacon) was really great. We had this on our second visit. Unfortunately, and the entire reason we went to Tim Horton's this weekend was for breakfast.
The bad: As I mentioned above we have now visited three times. Each visit has had similar issues other than our first. We went this weekend, and like the previous visit they were very busy. They have very limited parking, do not allow too many people in at any given time (despite most of the tables being empty) and do not have a good system for their two tier drive through allowing anyone who does secure a parking spot great difficulty in getting out. When we arrived, we were told to wait outside by an employee whom waited inside. They were allowing four people max and actually stopped a family of 5 from entering together (she complained to the manager as we overheard the entire exchange). At no point did this employee at the door, warn that they were low on donuts and no longer serving food from the menu for the walk in patrons. The whole reason we came was for breakfast. When we arrived at the counter, they had all the donuts we ordered in the case, but informed us that food cannot be ordered. Would have been nice to know that during our 15 minute wait outside. Now, the aggravating part was they were serving food for mobile orders and drive through. There was a line up of food waiting for the drive through patrons to pick up with more food being staged for them. We drove a good distance and chose Tim Hortons over another breakfast option only to be told we couldn't order food while they prioritized Mobile and Drive through.
When we were called for our order, two of the items were no longer available. We were given 1 of three items (honey dipped donut) which we had ordered, paid for and receipt show a quantity of three. This required showing the receipt to the person filling our order to get it corrected. This person forgot to give us the coffee we ordered until we ask about it as well. He also eventually found the apple fritter that was "no longer available) in the back and substituted a second for the blue berry donut one of the kids ordered but was no longer available. He told us the apple fritter was "hot and freshly made", but it definitely was not. It was cold and tasted like it had been on a tray for quite a while. In fact, most of the donuts were subpar on this visit and not up to the same freeness or quality we experience on the two previous visits.
We will likely hold off on visiting for a long while to give them time to get sorted and efficient. Right now they are anything but.
I will say, in each visit we have been there, there are a large amount of verbal complaints witnessed by anyone in the building at any given time.
The food is great, when they have and provide what you want, but their service, processes and logistical processes leave a lot...
Read moreI've been here a couple of times now. As a former Canadian who lived in Ottawa I'm used to seeing a Timmies on every street corner. I never had the coffee as I hate coffee, but the Honey Cruller is to die for IMO.
It's been well over a decade since I've been to a Tim Hortons, so I decided to go check it out. The first time I went it wasn't busy at all and the service was super fast. The second time they were hella busy, long drive through lines and inside the place was packed. I gave my order and had a seat. I started chatting up people to either side of me (each family) and was surprised to see that nobody sitting on my side of the restaurant was Canadian. They were all Americans. When I asked them why they were at TImmy's, they said that they used to frequent Dunkin' Donuts but that, as of late, the quality at Dunkin had gone way down, and the Tim Horton Donuts were much better. They had been looking for alternatives and were happy with what they had found here.
It took 5-10 minutes for my order to be ready - there was a constant stream of people coming in the door, and the staff was really hustling to keep up and doing it with a smile on their faces. Good show team!
I had a breakfast croissant, two honey crullers, and 2 Boston creme. Yummy! And I felt that the price was quite reasonable. My favourite thing from Timmy's when I lived in Canada was the honey cruller. It's quite sweet fyi, but I have a huge sweet tooth! Tasted just like I remembered and gave me that feeling of Home. I hope they do well in Austin. They are about 1/2 hr drive for me, and I have Celiacs so I won't be going too often - it'll be a guilty pleasure that I will pay for in more ways than one. (Guys, if you can figure out how to do some gluten-free donuts and other options, that would be awesome. In Canada they never had anything gluten-free either.)
I noticed reviews complaining about the quality of the coffee. So, I'm going to give my 2 cents. Tim Hortons is not and has never been a direct competitor to Starbucks in the coffee dept. (Totally different target markets.) Tim Hortons has historically been the working man's joint. I don't know if that has changed in the intervening 10+yrs, but even in Canada, it was well known that the coffee was ok, but people wanting specialty yuppie coffee stuck to Starbucks (Pardon moi Garçon, I'll have the mocha graaande laaaatte-cappuccino, thank you my good Sir! Can you add some artisanal goat's milk? Oh Smashing!) lol... sorry, couldn't resist.
That hasn't been the traditional Timmy's crowd, who (instead of billionaire tech execs and white-collar tech workers making multiple 6-figure salaries) are the blue-collar, working-man, all-American, salt-of-the-earth folk who put in an honest day's labor (out in the heat or the -30C winters), and keep society running. It's also been a place that has always been affordable enough for families to frequent (Canadians are notoriously over-taxed.), and I found the...
Read moreI am going to give them some grace because it was a grand opening and it was packed. It’s tough though because as a customer I still had to pay for everything so I gotta at least be honest. Most of the Donuts were stale and incredibly dry on grand opening day around 6pm. The Coffee was incredibly underwhelming and akin to something from the gas station. The ice coffee was tossed in the trash and despite confirming multiple times what flavor it was - they got it wrong. They weren’t able to redeem a coupon from the app. They didn’t get the donut order correct - they gave us two half dozens with repeating donuts on both boxes instead of a dozen assorted. They said they had a type of milk but after we got to the window they told us they ran out which would have been great to hear while ordering. They only had one person taking drive-thru orders despite there being two drive through lines that would merge back into one. Simply put… it was a mess. It was grand opening day but honestly - the coffee and donuts should have at least been spot on. The timbits felt more fresh but they were nothing special. The only donut that felt like it was made recently was the Apple/Cinnamon fritter which is the only thing that was good out of a big order. Personally, I don’t believe i’ll be back nor would I recommend that anyone wait in line for anything on the menu. Sure, go try it when it’s empty and see what it’s like. I figured going on opening day would be a chance to try donuts and coffee at their best but it’s clear that the operations team fell apart and that happens. The location itself was stunning and all the packaging and marketing materials are very nice. I am hoping they fix the issues and focus on freshness as well as getting orders right. Avoid all the paid influencers that are just lying to get you to come here asap. Give this place some time to settle and try it on a calm day to see...
