EDITING MY OLD REVIEW AS OF MAY 30, 2025.
SUKHO, GIRL, WHERE ARE YOU?! Management has changed. The food is sooooo average now. Not disgusting by any means, but that authentic mouth-bursting flavor is gone. My beloved and sweet girl Sukho (as we would call her, why did we never ask your real name??? This is Omar’s wife by the way—we miss you so much!!!), who always threw in a free Thai iced tea for my husband and a free mango sticky rice, is gone!!! No more cute notes and drawings on the take out boxes 😢 Truly, a PILLAR in the community has fallen. My husband and I are so upset. We have been trying really hard to save and eat at home, but decided to splurge tonight by ordering from our absolute favorite restaurant. We were so devastated to find out the original owner moved to Thailand. I really hope you’re happy because you deserve happiness after the joy you brought to Runnemede, Sukho. We loved you and we really hope you see this!!
Love, Omar and Zeynep
————————————————————————- ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 9 MONTHS AGO: This place deserves all the 5 star reviews it’s getting. First of all, the food is phenomenal and the service is nothing short of extraordinary. Seriously it’s very refreshing to talk to the owner… she’s clearly passionate about her restaurant and your experience in it. We tried the drunken noodle, Thai iced tea, vegetable dumplings, veggie spring rolls, lemongrass soup, and mango sticky rice. Everything was 5/5 delicious. The mango sticky rice especially SLAPPED. When I ordered, she made sure that I was comfortable that everything would be strictly vegetarian and there would be no meat contamination. A great and welcoming option for vegetarians, vegans, halal eaters, etc because they really show great care to respect your diet limitations and actually listen to you. This was only our first time trying Sukho but we will definitely become regulars...
Read moreFood is really great. I last dines there on Saturday. I don’t usually rate food since they are all different unless it’s really bad. This one is numbered as good.
I lived and worked in Asia, including more than 10 years in Thailand and I can say food at Sukhothai Restaurant now is as authentic as those in Thailand provided all available ingredients in this part of the world. Most of their ingredients are actually from Thailand even.
I am sorry to say I don’t understand those who never really know real authentic Thai food and keep clinging to the fads and freebies. Go get the food and the services. There are more than one restaurant and more than one cook in the world. Each will be different—learn to enjoy them.
Were you a business owner and you kept giving free items away all the time, how long would you stay in business? Please know the reality. Food cost is much higher than before. Have some senses. Do you think the old owner would not have stayed in business if they could make it? I ate their food many times as well. Food was good but could they be compared to those premier grades in premier restaurants in Thailand? Go try the $50-100 an entre’ in some hotels there and you’d know. I enjoyed their food. It’s different yet I enjoyed it.
Don’t mislead people with your limited knowledge and experience. Their food is beyond what you think.
Comparing to a lot of restaurants in NYC, NJ, and the Northeast, I think this is one of the very good ones.
No freebies doesn’t mean no good. I strongly...
Read moreUpdate: Just went here the other night and the food is as good as ever. This is authentic Thai and I love that Aum takes pride in making the food as close as it is from her homeland.
Summary - This is my new favorite (and only) Thai restaurant I patronize. The food here is absolutely on another level and Aum takes pride in the food that is prepared. Her conscientiousness to delivering authentic flavors is a dining experience. While the restaurant is unassuming, Sukho Thai is a reminder that no matter the ambience, food is what elevates the greatness of a restaurant.
Full Review - I heard about a new Thai restaurant in the Runnemede area. After passing the place twice, I parked and walked to the restaurant. For reference, it is near the tattoo place and will require parking on one of the side streets or at the municipal parking lot. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Aum (the owner). She quickly got us seated and let us know there were a lot of orders. Her pleasantness was above and beyond.
The following items were sampled: Thai tulip dumplings, chicken curry puff, mung bean curry puff, coconut soup, clear broth noodle soup with chicken, vegetable penang curry dish, and mango sticky rice. The beverages were Thai tea and Thai coffee. Absolutely everything was delicious and felt unique in my mouth.
From start to finish, this was one of the best dining experiences I have had in at least a few years. I cannot speak enough about the food here and advocate for others to come...
