Pizza King is almost inedible majorly overpriced pizza that has a special place in people's hearts just because it's an old local chain largely in small towns. The only explanation for its popularity is its long connection with this community. My ex was born in Indiana and she had this intensely emotional childhood love for Pizza King and we went anytime we saw one. I wanted to love this local biz, Rushville Pizza King, but it really can only be good to a local who has personal connections to this place. The sauce tastes like it came out of a ketchup packet, cheese tastes like plastic and the crust like burned cardboard. Also the staff was very cold and unfriendly (and slow) - me and my buddy (who will eat almost anything) couldn't eat much of it and just smiled as the staff made us feel like the place was only for known locals - outsiders not welcome (though I live right down the road). If you read most of the reviews people say "best Pizza King around" (notice the King qualifier - not best pizza but best Pizza King) well this is not saying much since (1) there are few Pizza Kings around anymore and (2) they were always sub par local Indiana pizza popular just because pizza places were rare in Indiana back in the 70s -80s. But they used to have this Lionel train that would bring the drinks and smaller items to your table (and some had a buffet). Without any of those things Pizza King is no better than generic Kroger or Walmart brand frozen pizza, worse because it's way more expensive. Also since there is this irrational following at this place the owners have little reason to get better. But I think I've seen that this restaurant supports little league etc - If they do that then hats off to small local biz. I wanted to like it but I've been to way better Pizza Kings - though not for a long time. Used to go to the one in Brazil, Indiana and most others around Indiana were okay. For good local Rushville pizza try Pizza Hut, Casey's (remarkably good) or even Noble Roman's - a former Indiana / Midwest chain kinda like Pizza King - all local. For a great social venue (with bad food that people don't seem to notice) - Pizza King is a great location and atmosphere where you'll see friends and neighbors...
Read moreThis is my all-time favorite Pizza King to eat! I have dined here many a times over many years, and their one of the original and best PK's out there. They are one of the few that serve the Cowboy pizza, which is an awesome tasting, very thick and filling pizza with double toppings.
The one-time Mayor of Rushville even worked here making pizza's, ha. This is a long established location, that inside has not updated in probably 30 years, but hey, that 1970's wood look is always in fashion, and barely noticeable once the delicious pizza arrives.
They have phones at each booth you pick up when you want to call the kitchen and place your order. That was high-tech 40 years ago, and is still cool and nostalgic today, ha.
I sometimes drive here from Shelbyville, right past the PK in Shelbyville, just so I can get good service and that great Cowboy pizza that Shelbyville has no clue how to make or what it even is since it is not on their menu. I even explained to them how to make it and 2 times they tried and failed, guess they need to see it made in person to learn, but anyways, Rushville PK is great!
They also have various subs and other pizza type foods, but their famous for pizza. The supreme, with no onions, is my 2nd favorite behind the Cowboy.
If you have tried other PK's and not been happy, maybe you should try this location, as it's one of the best! There is parking on the street and in their parking lot...
Read moreI just ate here again. I ordered the same thing, nacho supreme no tomato chips on the side. This time it came in the Aluminum pan that it usually comes in. It was a good portion, I got full, It tasted great and was worth the price. Always make sure they put it in the Aluminum pan, not the styrofoam container. I forgot to take a picture this time because I was so hungry. I just started eating sorry!
This review is for one meal the word meal is used very loosely. I ordered my supper for delivery Nacho Deluxe with no tomatoes and chips on the side price was $10.65. When it got here it felt like a good weight and was in a round aluminum dish as usual. But I noticed there was tomatoes on it so I had the driver take it back to be fixed. (Gave driver extra tip for his troubles wasn't his fault) When I got the replacement I noticed it weighed at least half as much as the first one and was packaged differently. This one was in a square styrofoam container lined with very thin aluminum foil. The food wasn't even a centimeter deep I put my fork in to show depth. (See pictures) Had to be extra careful or the chips would poke a hole in the extremely thin foil. Ten chips in it was gone. I spent $10.35 for half an appetizer. Now I have to figure out what to...
