When it comes it dining in the Rutland area honestly it can get pretty boring. Rarely do menus change and when they do it’s usually just something being removed and replaced by something that used to be there anyways so not really something new.
I went to Southside for my annual birthday dinner with my parents. I won’t bother talking about the awesome management, wonderful bartenders, fabulous servers, and talented back of house staff; really what’s the point anyone who has been there already knows these things so will skip right to the pleasant surprise I was greeted with for my birthday.
Upon opening the menu and expecting to see the exact same things as always, it was great to see some new additions. You would think with the great new additions I would try something new but I say na na it’s my birthday I’m getting the same things I always get. When it came time for dessert I asked for the dessert menu already knowing I would order the same thing I always get but I was wrong, for the first time in as long as I can remember my birthday dessert would change.
New on the dessert menu is the “Steakhouse Eclair”. When this work of art arrived in front of me, I suspect if I had been sitting outside the clouds would have parted and bathed it in light as a delivery from above. The massive makes one immediately wonder how you could possibly eat it…..and then I took a bite….none would be left or shared. My intrusive thoughts almost won when my partner tried to get a bite; but as an adult I smiled happy she could experience it as well instead of using my fork as a defensive tool to protect my prize delivered from the new mystery baker in the kitchen who I imagine floats off the floor and performs other magic tricks as amazing as this creation.
TRY THE STEAKHOUSE ECLAIR…..with an...
Read moreMy family had high hope based on the menu, and the reviews but we were very disappointed. Also, for the price of the restaurant charges, we had high expectations of well prepared food. We ordered the bread basket (paid), NY Sirloin, Pork Chop, chicken parm, Burger, Steak Bomb, Caesar Salad, potato soup, oysters, creamed spinach, and mac and cheese. Out of all that, only the Caesar salad, burger, steak bomb, potato soup, and mac and cheese were satisfactory. One of the bread in the basket (we paid for the bread) was so burnt that it was hard throughout. The steak came out cold and bloody, the pork chop was overcooked (I did asked for it to be med rare and they said they could do it), both the chicken and pasta in the chicken parm were overcooked and bland and pasta sauce was non existent and watery, oyster was still connected to the shell, and the cream spinach was bland. We sent the bread back but we kept the other dishes because so many of them had issues. In hindsight, given the prices of the dishes, we should have requested the restaurant to reprepare the food. Food aside, the service was disappointing. The server was efficient enough but she was very dismissive of our issue with the water. Clearly the water came out of the soda tap and had some sweetness and soda taste (sprite like) to it. All 5 of us tasted the slight sweetness. She didn't believe us and told us maybe we are tasting the fluoride in the water. Gaslighting at its finest! We had to ask for new glasses of water twice before we got normal water. We were there at 5pm on a Sunday. Maybe that's why our experience was terrible? However, given the prices this restaurant charges, I'd expect it'll have good food and good service at all times. Needless to say, we...
Read moreWas really excited to know that the hotel we stayed at had a steak house right behind it. So here goes.
I love steak, poultry and fish. I’ve developed a bigger love for the taste of all food especially since my boyfriend introduced me to mouth watering restaurants (He himself is an executive chef with 18 years culinary experience with a background in fine dining)
We were both excited to come here. We were seated quickly and our waitress and host were wonderful. Our orders were taken quickly and our food came out shortly.
We ordered the cheese board which was fantastic! I wasn’t a fan of the area on the menu that listed the steaks. There was no ounces and I had to ask our waitress which I have never had to do. The steak I would not recommend at all. I ordered a steak delmonico 22ounces medium rare and it was medium well. The outside was a bit overdone (slightly burned). The steak had no sauce, wasn’t braised, had any seasonings and honestly there was no flavor. It was bland. It was the worst steak I have ever tasted. It came with a blue cheese butter on top. Personally outback has better steak than here.
We had a side of the asparagus which came with béarnaise and it was NOT it at all. He ordered the NY strip that came with a cognac sauce on the side. We have eaten in some of the best restaurants in NY, NJ, PA and that was one of the worst sauces I’ve ever tasted. My boyfriend traveled overseas and worked in Europe and he agreed. It was thick and it’s not supposed to be. The mashed potatoes it came with were cold.
I only give 2 stars due to the service and the cheeseboard and the drinks from the bar.
I have never had such bland...
