In short, undercooked, mistreated by waiting staff and “Manager”, the place smells like a damp casino, but cocktails were nice. Read the full story below and draw your own conclusions.
I never leave reviews as I think that on any given day, things can go wrong and I am a people person and it’s how I make my living, but when it’s multiple people teaming up to make your experience bad, it must be done. The Fish and Chips was probably the worst we have ever had. I lived in England for 7 years and my wife if British, so I’m not exaggerating. Cod,, a whitefish , is what it claims to be. This fish was more brown than anything . It was very undercooked and almost raw, as was the batter.
I asked our Server to take it away, and only after she asked how the food was. She was very polite and even said she would get it removed from our bill, which I did not ask for, but thanked her for. Unfortunately, my wife gets put off food easily when she has something that is not right, especially what amounted to deep fried sushi. She did not want anything else at that point.
Unfortunately when the Server returned, she said the manager said we had eaten most of the food. This was not true, as we had cut open all of the 3 small pieces of fish to see what it looked like. Remember, I don’t ask for compensation. It was offered by the server.
Then a “senior “ Server stepped in when we asked to speak to the manager. He just had lighted the situation being very passive aggressive, and sarcastic with a huge smile and very low so no one could really hear him but us, even leaning in to try and show some sort of force or dominance. I’m 6’2” and 210 lbs, ex military, ex bouncer, and the son of a cop. That does not work on me.
When the “Manager” showed up, whom I suspect was actually the cook due to his famed and worn tee shirt and trousers, he even admitted to the batter being unblocked, but offered no reprieve or compensation., even after saying that he never said that the food was mostly eaten.
I paid in full and left on an $60.00 meal, leaving an $10 dollar tip for the nice Server only, unfortunately without being able to take a picture of the food. This was Classic Movie Date night for my wife and I, and it will forever be tarnished by a couple of...
Read moreThis American restaurant is located in Land Park across from Sacramento's Historic Cemetery. I had high hopes for this place but was non-plussed from the moment we entered. The hostess didn't welcome us in, she asked me if we had a reservation. No hi, hlo, welcome to Riverside Clubhouse..nada. I ordered the fish and chips, and while the fish itself was good the batter was so thick it was raw and overloaded with salt. It was actually inedible. The waitress had them remake it with thinner less raw batter. I have had fish and chips from the UK to the west coast and this was my first experience with raw batter or having to ask for "lightly battered." When they remade the fish they did not bring back the "chips" and had to wait for them to be remade. Again the fish was salty while the chips had no salt. The atmosphere was far less than expected as well. There were spots where the ceiling tiles had clearly fallen and just left bare or with plywood nailed over the barest spots. The hostess seated two gentlemen next to our table and told them how lucky they were it was the last free table. The rest were all reservations, mind you there were about 10 empty tables on an enclosed patio, plus several inside the restaurant. I had to find the waitress to pay the bill so I could leave. This was not an inexpensive meal. The food was barely passable, the average age of diner is about 80, and an establishment I would expect to see on Kitchen Nightmares. With so many great places in Sacramento I am surprised this place is still...
Read moreSuuuuper long wait after order. Many front of house staff (5-7) sitting around avoiding eye contact sitting at bar or cocktail tables. When we first walked in, the bartender met us, greeted us, and made a drink quickly offered to transfer to table, instead paid on the spot. Everything was great until we were sat. We only ordered two sandwiches, one basic cheese burger and one steak sandwich and measly bruschetta app disappointing but nit an issue. Between app and meal...a one hour wait for said sandwiches. They got dropped, "Sorry you were starving to death. Hahaha...here you go." Making light of an obvious awkward situation, it was understood we were waiting an unreasonably long wait. Hahah, again, but that was the last communication before the check. They overcooked steaksandwhich the other fell apart looking at it. Brioche bun tuned to mush before it landed at our table. It was also as tall as it was wide. No apology, no check-in. Even the bartender kept his back to us, and seemed to ignoringvus was fine to avoid awkwardness. Once they finally dropped sandwiches, no other check-in, just the bill shortly after. No communication, no complaints made just straight up ignored and treated like we didn't order enough. I would like to say they were busy. Maybe short staffed in kitchen, possibly?!? But why did they just ignore us? Just my wife and I on a Sunday afternoon. Sad too...
