My wife and I had our first experience at Taylor's Kitchen this weekend. Amazing! Great job all around! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The staff was professional and on point. The food was fresh and delicious. The flavors of each dish were very well coordinated with their accompanying sides and sauces:
Smoked Trout Deviled Eggs - Flavor wow! We both looked at each other the second we took a taste and both literally said "wow". We love deviled eggs and more often then not find this simple dish subpar at most restaurants. Taylor's are amazing and we will order again. Mussels on the Half Shell (special) - Very fresh, not too chilled, and great dipping sauces. Gnocchi - Creamy warm in a wonderfully tasty onion soubise. We will order this again. This was another "wow" moment. Ahi Tuna Crudo - The temperature, form, and flavors were spot-on. The accompanying plantain chips (for which I am usually not a big fan) were perfectly crispy with a touch of flavor that worked very well with this tuna dish. Pan Roasted Mary's Half Chicken - The salad was yummy and fresh with a great vinaigrette dressing. The peaches were crispy and sweet (are peaches in season here in Sac?). Finally, the chicken was perfect. The flesh was juicy throughout and the seasonings permeated the complete bite so not to have that flavorless "middle" of the breast. Moreover, the seasoning enhanced the chicken flavor without overwhelming it. Again, roasted chicken is a simple dish I really enjoy and I often find it subpar at many restaurants.
Good job Taylor's! We will be back and will bring...
Read moreHad been here 5 or 6 six times and enjoyed it. We made a reservation for 6pm for a special occasion through their reservation number. We arrive and are told we don't have a reservation because they don't take reservations during the day and the person who answered the phone didn't know what they are doing. We were puzzled because I had made reservations in the past before with no issue and if they have a dedicated reservation number why wouldn't you be able to make a reservation in the daytime for the evening. It seemed like excuses. But one insincere apology after the other and we finally went on our way to find somewhere else. In other restaurants at that price point they would have tried to make it up somehow, maybe a couple of complimentary glasses of wine from the bar to say sorry but not Taylor's, they mess up, ruin your special evening, insincerly apologise and that my friends is that. Hugely disappointed. I have a feeling that because 50% of their tables were lined up for a huge party that they simply overbooked for the time frame and instead of admitting that they messed up they tried to suggest that the reservation we made wasn't valid by blaming it on back of the house staff answering the phone. Pretty underhand if you ask me. Overbooking, disappointing return customers on a special occasion and throwing their back of the house staff under the bus. Needless to say we won't miss not having to deal with their front of the house staff. It's a...
Read moreUnfortunately our experience did not live up to expectations based on reviews. The gnocchi were dry with some blobs of blue cheese and a few pomegranate seeds scattered around. Our other appetizer with braised carrots and beluga lentils was good. If you are not a meat eater the entree pickings were limited to a dry scallop preparation. We had sea bass that they graciously offered to bring in from their shop immediately adjacent to the restaurant. Unfortunately it was rubbery, undercooked and cold. The dessert - apple bread pudding for two - was also underwhelming. Informed that the metal pan was very hot we did not anticipate that the dessert would be cold and as uninteresting with a lot of bread and a few slices of apple on top. Lots of delicious cinnamon however. Very nice and attentive staff but the kitchen unfortunately just didn’t live up to our...
