As an Arizona native and self-titled Mexican food connoisseur, I was exited to try this place as it was well reviewed. The restaurant was fairly busy when I went, which I thought was a good sign. The interior was clean and decorated on par with a family owned Mexican restaurant. After being seated, there seemed to be some confusion over who was taking care of our table. It took a while for several different people to get our drinks, chips and salsa and for our order to be taken. In addition to the house salsa that is served in a squeeze bottle (which was ok), we opted to try some of the ‘chunky’ salsa. Sadly, it was bland, not the slightest bit spicy and was made from canned tomatoes; an omen of things to come. The waitress who finally settled on serving our table was pretty young and seemed to have not yet made the correlation between providing good service and receiving good tips. My co-worker and I both got the Craver Combo, which per our selections came with a green chili burro enchilada style, a cheese enchilada, a beef taco, rice and beans. I don’t recall the exact cost of the plate, but overall the menu was reasonably priced. When the Craver Combo arrived, the plate looked good; a giant portion that was presented in a typical manner for American style Mexican food, complete with the iceberg lettuce garnish. I ate the taco first, which was a little greasy, but pretty good. It ended up being the best thing that I would eat while I was there. The enchilada was overly cheesy, greasy and bland. The giant burrito, which should have been the star of the show, was down right bad. The tortilla was pasty white, like the generic supermarket brand made in a factory back east, and had no flavor. The filling was very skimpy on meat and the small chunks of meat that I did get were reminiscent of wet dog food. Most of the burrito actually consisted of layer upon layer of the pasty white flavorless tortilla rather than any kind of ‘green chile’ filling. The green enchilada sauce tasted like it came out of a can, as did the beans. The rice tasted like plain white rice with canned tomatoes mixed in, nothing else. Even the copious amounts of melted cheese couldn’t save this dish. IMO, good Mexican restaurants will have good rice and beans. You know if they care about the small details, they will pay attention to the rest. Unfortunately, attention to detail was absent during my visit to Casa Mañana. Mexican food this bad should be a crime in Arizona. I didn’t even finish half my plate and and no take home box was necessary. My co-worker was of the same opinion. Maybe we ordered wrong. Maybe it was an off day or a new cook. I’ll never know. But I do know this: next time I’m in Safford, I’ll be eating down the road at La Casita, and not at...
Read moreIf you are looking for a case of food poisoning with a side of racism this is the place to go. My husband and I stopped in for dinner a few days ago and were seated rather quickly. From were I was sitting I could see directly into the kitchen and the terrible things I saw were no joke. Busboy touching chips with no gloves after taking trash out an bussing table. And no they did not stop to wash their hands before bare hand grabbing chips and taking them to the tables. A kitchen with no hairnet or gloves in site. All of the chip container fell on the floor and were picked up and placed back on the shelf and sent out to tables. The lady that was supposed to be our waitress flat out ignored us and continued to serve tables right next to us and yes we were in her section. We finally got to put our order in when I asked another waitress if she knew who ours was. When our food finally came out almost 30 minutes after we set down it was flavorless and undercooked. The side plate tasted like it all came out of a can or box. My daughters chicken nuggets were cold in the middle and the frenchfries were disgusting. The staff outside of the kind waitress who took pitty on us and took our order. Gave us alot of side eye and dirty looks. The food was horrible the staff were what I can only assume as racist as we were the only interracial couple there and the only ones who seemed to be being treated this way. Do not spend your money here! The food is not good and the people handling your food do not care if they are...
Read moreWe came Friday night with our son, who was in town, for a great dinner. We just moved to the area not long ago. We were seated fast and got our chips n salsa, and as soon as we were going to take our drink order, this old lady was staring at our table. After the awkward pause, she walked by tapping her finger on our table. Not but a few minutes later, she was back and asked if we were going to be ordering drinks. Odd thing to ask. We said yes we were. She then proceeded to say she would comp our drinks (soda) if we would be willing to move to a different booth. My husband said no. We were comfortable where we were at. She continued to offer the free drinks and basically would not take no for an answer and had all our stuff moved to a different table. My husband was in shock and anger. He told the lady he would not return, and she didn't even comprehend that she was too focused on trying to figure out how to seat a group of 16. Our first server came to our new table and apologized and said we'd have a new server. We were seated in a room of another big party, and that server was busy with them and said she would be over after taking their order. Our previous server told her what happened, and she came to take our order first. Service was good. The food was good. But as unfortunate as it is, we will not return. As we were leaving, that group still hadn't shown up, so our original server and table were unoccupied. There was no reason to...
