Iām always a little skeptical with the 24 hour taco shops, even those with good reviews; I find theyāre either hit or miss (usually miss). Luckily for me, my visit to Los Jilbertos was a hit and Iāll be back. Awesome late night option in Safford and Iām thankful it exists as Iām often in town after everywhere else shuts down at 8:00 PM. I got the burrito and taco combo. The guy at the counter was friendly and helpful and and let me upgrade to a carne asada burrito with no extra charge. I thought the prices were very reasonable. The food wasnāt mind blowing but good overall, especially for a 24 hour taco shop kind of place. Iād give it 90th percentile on food for this kind of restaurant category. The dining room is sparse and basic and could benefit from some easy improvements, but it serves its purpose (itās not like Los Jilbertos is somewhere youād bring a first date to anyway). I recommend Los Jilbertos and think the food itself is better than what you get at the sit down Casa MaƱana Restaurant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm form NM and love Chimayo red sauce and it is by far the best red sauce in N America. But having grown up in Az. A Sonoran style red suave on a cheese enchilada with iceberg lettuce and lots of onions is about the best 'home cooked' Mexican food meal I can think of. And this place is as true to that as I've found. It doesn't look like much, and in fact looks like the proverbial 'hole in the wall' and that's actually good, but don't let it fool you. The #5combo of a beef taco and cheese enchilada plate is just like coming home. As a traveler for work, eating crappy food t crappy eateries year after year is just gross. I hate it! But when I eat at places like this off the cuff, it shows me there are still great little restaurants in small towns, just like in Mexico, that still exist. Thanks for restoring my faith in the small, family restaurant that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWho knew that a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in Safford has one of the best chimichangas in the Southwest?
Safe to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Los Jilbertos, and their chimichanga scores a high 11 points on the 13 point universal scale of chimichanga deliciousness. The tortilla was excellent and perfectly fried. The beans are on the runny side, which is way better than that dry, caked mess you get at a lot of places. The cheese to beans ratio in the chimi was perfect. The lettuce and pico and guac were all fresh and delicious, and their green salsa was perfect.
And on top of it all, the customer service and speed of service were phenomenal. Way to go, yāall. Five stars ALL DAY, for the food. Sometimes they mess up your order, and their communication in the kitchen could use improving. Just check your food before you go and...
