Coral Sea Cafe & Restaurant — Restaurant in Saint Croix

This is a wonderful ocean-side restaurant/bar. The beach is literally a few feet from the tables. This is a clean, tidy restaurant with very good food. Four of us ordered numerous dishes to share. By far the best were two items on the Specials board... 1) A cup of seafood which included shrimp, scallops, and mussels in a very nice butter sauce. All done perfectly. And 2) shrimp sliders that were absolutely delicious. The chef just nailed a home-made sauce and the texture of the shrimp that comprised the main part of the slider was just perfect. The beer battered shrimp and coconut shrimp were also excellent. The quality of the food easily makes us not care that the wait was a little long. We totally believe that the chef simply takes great care with every dish that comes out of the kitchen. And our server kept the drinks coming and was both attentive and very pleasant to talk with. This place was so bad!! The waitress said they were out of pickles and shrimp. Asked for chicken curry and she said “oh, we’re out of that too”. My friend and I ordered the mussels and small salads. Another the fish and chips and the fourth order was the whole snapper. Mussels came out first. Then the fish and no chips…they were out. No substitutions offered.2 salads came out should have been 3. She then said “oh we’re out of salad too”. So my friend’s entree with included salad just didn’t get one. The only dressing they had was Greek, after being asked what kind we wanted. When the bill came was charged full price for the “fish no chips” and the salad we never got. Had to ask for an adjustment. Oh, the the fish and chips was literally 3 fish sticks on a plate. Should have read the reviews first I guess. We just tried this place tonight and there was only 3 other tables (6 people at one, 2 at one and 4 at another) and it took over 2 HOURS to get our food!!! It tasted okayish, I don't think it was worth the amount we paid- but it took SO long to get the drinks and then took forever to get the food!! We were leaving and noticed that the people that had been there for at least 45 minutes hadn't even got their drinks!!!! It WASN'T busy enough to be THAT kind of slow!!!!
