I went here to have breakfast with a friend, and was pleasantly surprised! I remember hearing about the Golden Thyme Cafe, and did not know there was a restaurant. The decor was beautiful; soulful and music inspired - I loved it! My friend ordered the Cajun pasta dish and I ordered the shrimp and grits. As a Southern raised kid, I get nervous ordering shrimp and grits in MN, because this is not a common culture dish up North, and it's usually not done right lol 😆 But my grits were cheesy, THICK, and delicious with a generous pour of what looked like sauteed vegetables and seasoning sauce on the side, and big yummy shrimps decorating the top of my grits. A beautiful plate of savory soup food that excited me the minute I saw it. And it WAS GOOD. I also had Jonny Cakes on the side (another thing that impressed me as a Southerner lol). A Johnny cake is like a pancake, but made with corn bread instead of flour, so it's kinda like a flat hush puppy. I actually ordered an extra side of cakes so my friend could try it as well, and the extra side came with honey butter. FREAKING DELICIOUS. I enjoyed everything on my plate completely! Now, the price point is a little higher than what you might want to spend, but I think it was completely worth it...I have paid similar prices for "soul food" in MPLS, and got cheapened, or healthy modern takes on what is SUPPOSED to be heavily seasoned, rich delicious food. Gathering with my sisters for a relaxing day filled with heartfelt conversation, we were able to enjoy the perfect blend of coffee, culture, and curated elegance. The staff was incredible – so welcoming and genuinely warm, making us feel like we were dining with family. There’s something so special about a place where you can feel both pampered and at home at the same time. Our waitress, Savannah, was the absolute highlight of the experience.
