Ubiquitous is a word commonly defined as — common. However, that definition falls short of the word’s true mark. If something is ubiquitous, it is common in context. An item’s surroundings, location or comparable situation to other relative items in proximity define its distinctiveness. For example, one might compare ubiquitous sushi restaurants in Tokyo, baguettes in Paris, or ravioli in Italy. If this understanding is true, then if one were to read deeper into the relationship, we see that alteration of context transforms the common into an exclusive treasure. Imagine the mind-bending wonder of discovering a buttery croissant bakery in Nairobi, or Land-O-Lakes cheddar in a Beijing department store, as I once did. By altering context we alter expectations and appreciation, converting ubiquitous from common to extraordinary.
Hamburguesas El Gordo accomplishes this same joyous contradiction with their Mexican-style street-hamburgers. The metro area is inundated with hamburger options to satisfy your craving. From smashed to stuffed options, you won’t have to go far for your burger fix… Unless you’re seeking something extraordinarily special. Then you’ll want to get out of your routine and take a trip to one of their four locations for a generous Mexican-street-style burger piled high with mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, ham, bacon, avocado, peppers, and traditional American toppings — just to start. On my second time ordering, they asked if I wanted a double burger and I guffawed at the ridiculous possibility of consuming twice the meat. But absurdity is dispelling common considerations for something seemingly out of reach, or out of context. So break free from your expectations and get a delicious taste of Mexico without the travel hassles, and take an El Gordo burger off your...
Read moreIf it was a negative review button, I will press it until I can’t press anymore What’s my recommendation for this restaurant? Nothing don’t order anything from here. COLD FOOD and DRY BURGERS if that’s your cup of tea then enjoy but for those who like integrity and quality then this is NOT the place for you the Manager, supervisor The for staff all rude and inconsiderate. They don’t know the person in charge or know their current promotions that they’re running.I called because it was wrong and they got upset. One of the workers called Martha tell me the manager or the supervisor are not in today and so between two other coworkers they had me on the phone and neither one of them knew who the manager was apparently then Martha the lady who said Martha is the supervisor so I got to wait till she in to talk to somebody in charge then hung up so I called back because that is so unprofessional you got people who lie unnecessarily they can’t follow their own promotional guidelines or policies that they’re putting on for display they can’t honor those so if you’re gonna order food from this place, just don’t because it’s trash and it’s a waste of time. Customer service is trash Overall, it’s just a bad experience every time I go so I won’t be ordering from this restaurant either. Martha yelled at me to call Uber eats cause even though my food is messed up when I order from her restaurant directly, so yeah I won’t be order from them anymore and if it is over, I’ll just a trash experience they’ll never get my money again. And I was going to do my part and support local businesses. I won’t be supporting this local business anymore, and I WILL BE SPREADING THE WORD maybe if I spoke Spanish they would be...
Read morethey lost our order and tried to make me think we ordered from a different location. i actually believed them because my sister was the one who ordered and the employee showed me that my confirmation email said "st paul #2" on it (i was at the #3 location on victoria st. ) so i drove 8 miles to hamburgueses el gordo #2 in west st paul to pick up our order... an inconvenience but fine. when i got to the new location the employees there said that there was no order at their location either and like the first location, the employees here didn't really seem to care that i was inconvenienced. they tried to make it seem like i was the one who made the mistake and not hamburgueses el gordo. only after raising my voice at them did they reluctantly offer to make my food that had already paid for. so the email confirmation said st paul 2 on it but as it turns out it had the phone number for the Victoria street location on it. i know this because we tried calling over and over and finally got through. so where did the order actually go? did someone pocket the money? if this is a recurring problem with the website someone should fix it. we were excited to see something new open in our area and its unfortunate that this happened. after the first time we ate here we thought the food was very greasy but thought we'd give it a second chance.. after this situation i dont think i could reccomend this to anyone i know or ever go back.
UPDATE: the owner offered to make things right by responding to this very review. i emailed them and...
