We have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Hey Bear, watching its transformation over the past few months. This morning, we finally stopped in for breakfast. The menu offers a wide variety of breakfast options, ranging from simple favorites like PB&J or grilled cheese to more substantial choices. For drinks, you can choose between drip coffee, cold press, sodas, juices, and water. Freshly baked scones and biscuits greet you at the counter, adding a tempting touch. After reviewing the menu, we decided on the breakfast burrito, a breakfast sandwich, and a slice of coffee cake fresh from the oven. While we waited at a nearby table, we could see into the open kitchen, where the cooks were busy preparing our food. Though we got our breakfast to go, there was plenty of colorful seating available inside. The coffee cake was sweet, warm, and absolutely delicious—though I wished for a bigger slice! The breakfast burrito, packed with beans, eggs, cheese, and flavorful house-made chorizo, hit the spot. The breakfast sandwich featured a homemade biscuit and tasty sausage, but the eggs were just a bit too salty. Overall, the cafe is clean, bright, and welcoming, with friendly staff who seem genuinely happy to be part of the community. We'll definitely be back to support this local spot and explore more of the menu!

So excited this new cafe finally opened up in the neighborhood! I ordered the parfait and a cold press for just over $10. The parfait was delicious with coconut yogurt, blueberries, and house-made granola. I believe the type of yogurt and fruit is subject to change depending on the day. Their coffee is from Roundtable just around the corner, which means you can't go wrong with ordering a cup. Their food/beverages are packaged to-go, which is super convenient, especially since there are parks nearby with benches in case you'd want to enjoy the weather. Otherwise, you can eat inside and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the cafe itself. Staff was also very friendly!

I have to say the Cuban is up there among the best. Lived in Florida for years and had Cubans all over the state. And the one at hey bear can stand proudly with the best ones I had over the last 20 years. And better than most I had since coming to the twin cities. Pickle and mustard were just right. Good press and nice melt of cheese. Pork was scrumptious. Was it Cuban bread? Maybe not but it worked perfectly. DC had the egg sandwich and it was yummy as well. The biscuit is tasty and was up to the task of containing the fillings. Love this whole in the wall.

If you're reading this to determine if you should go here-just go, it's great! We stopped in for breakfast here when we were staying in st paul. We have never had an "egg fluff bite" and man was it a creamy treat. I got the breakfast bowl and my husband got the burrito. He said it was the best he has ever had. It's simple and delicious. Salsa on the side might be a good addition for those who like it (my chorizo bowl had a tasty salsa on it). The breakfast bowl was great-chorizo is very good. We didn't need to eat lunch because the portions are generous. The owner was working and was very friendly and appreciative of business. The shop is in a cute old building, very unassuming and cozy which we loved. Service was fast. We liked it so much we wanted to go back and get breakfast again, but as is common with breakfast places it isn't open on Mondays. I will keep it in mind to stop again when we are in town! No pictures because we scarfed down the delicious...

So excited to have a new restaurant opened in this space! The interior is cute and clean, and menu simple but very tasty and affordable. I believe both the breakfast and lunch options are served all day, and my order only took around 10-15 minutes to be made fresh. I got the “bear in a blanket” special and it was fantastic!

Edit to add: ~6 months after their opening and every time we try something new here it’s impressive on a whole new level. What a treasure to have in the neighborhood!

Another edit to add: we are happy to have Hey Bear opened back up, but unfortunately their biscuits which used to be reason enough to stop by are a pale, deflated version of their former selves. Thankfully the breakfast burrito seems to be the same. Their reopening seems to have been a little strange and abrupt, but hopefully they stick around this time and continue to improve. Really miss the old biscuits and scone...
