I'll be clear about something up front, I was at the brewery for two days, judging in a national competition for homebrewed beers. It was long, exhausting work, trying to rush through judging some beers in a few of the more difficult and unusual categories. All through it, staff from the brewery took good care of us, and at times, when it was appropriate to drink commercial beer, they would pour us anything they had on tap. I especially liked the Maibock. At the end of the work day on Friday, I asked the bartender if Mark Stutrud might be around. The person wondered who I was, that I'd hoped to talk to the head honcho of the brewery. I explained my connection, telling her that I'd chauffeured international beer writer Michael Jackson to the brewery when it first opened, and a few minutes later, I was having a nice visit with Mark. this brewery is innovated where it should be, and old-fashioned where it ought to be, as well. Today I was in the area and decided to stop in to claim my free beer. I was told I could not redeem it because Summit is now charging for the tour and I did not pay for my tour. So what? You gave me a free beer token. Why should those changes nullify my free beer token? 1 Star. Not impressed with Summit’s customer focus. I think I will have a hard time purchasing this brand in the future knowing it’s about profits, not customers. I’m now enjoying a Ballast Point Sculpin down the street instead of redeeming my token and then buying a flight from...
Read moreMy wife and I are doing a brews trip from Fargo ND (we are from Austin TX) through the Twin Cities and a couple in WI. Today we stopped at Summit Brewing in St Paul MN. Our hunt is for good beers and Tin Tackers. I don’t usually post if a place is “out of tackers” but we enjoyed this stop so much we needed to give them their due. The service was great and the ladies tending bar were great. The beers were amazing too. We didn’t try their food truck but it looked good too. The ladies provided us with a list of breweries to try for tackers which was very cool of them. If you’re in the Twin Cities stop in and give the folks a chance to show you...
