Funky Sweets — Restaurant in Saint Petersburg

The name of the game here is fried- everything is fried, and I mean EVERYTHING. Well, maybe except the coffee, I don’t reckon fried coffee would be all too good, but who knows... anyways, this place should really be called “Fried Sweets” because that’s what they’re serving up through and through.

Okay, so maybe I’m being a little dramatic, but I’m really not. Funky Sweets is a 70s themed shop, and the atmosphere is one I have found nowhere else and is difficult to fully explain- low lights, abstract colors, disco balls and groovy music.

Alright, back to the food- there’s fried oreos, fried cheesecake, funnel cake, fried slices of cake, fried twinkies.. thought I was joking? There’s also ice cream and coffee. I found it really neat that they sell Dark Canyon coffee, most people won’t understand, but Dark Canyon coffee is a company in South Dakota where I am from and it’s THE best. So many don’t even realize the quality of coffee they are lucky enough to enjoy.

My parents shared a funnel cake and it was definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. I got the fried red velvet cheesecake, and they offer a side of ice cream with it if you choose, so of course I chose. The cake itself, all fried things aside was pretty darn good. Considering this place sells mostly fair foods, it’s probably about the best quality you can get. I wouldn’t come here much because fried food can really upset my stomach but this is top notch...

Been living in Florida now almost 5 years and have been going here for about 4. Hate to say it but I’m with the low ratings on this one here. There’s definitely been a change somewhere either food, staff or service. Employees are pretty friendly however food quality has definitely gone down. The wings on the photo that I ordered were supposed to be BBQ however as the picture shows that’s not what BBQ wings looks like. I also ordered my fried twinkies with drizzled marshmallows and rather than explain to me the outage on the drizzle and letting ME decide what I wanted on the Twinkie for substitution they just added of these random marshmallows which I don’t like btw. I had sent it back to be corrected however they kept swearing numerous times that the wings were bbq (which they weren’t they definitely had a honey mustard type of taste and it was spicy) plus they just slapped whatever drizzle they could on my twinkies instead of making me new ones with what I actually wanted or could use for substitutions might I also add the twinkies were cold . :/ very disappointing to spend $50 and not be satisfied. May possibly return in the future but I wouldn’t suggest...

U can manipulate Google to delete my review but I stand behind my review, to which I'm entitled to when I spent money with your business. Ur daughter or whoever u have working upfront gave me a dirty look , behind my back, when I was choosing my flavors of ice cream. If u don't want people of color to patronize ur business put a sign on the door & fire ur kitchen staff, because that's all you have working back there. The ice cream is good. But the cleanliness & atmosphere is 0 ⭐ s. Like I said I won't be back & tell everyone that ask me about this place it's closed. & Yes this is the 4th & gandy location. Do better* my response is the truth to which I'm aloud to give my opinion about ur business. I live in this community & I patronize ur store & other business in that shopping center. And the service ur family provided was shameful at best. It should me how it's ok to take my money but I'm going to make u fee bad or uncomfortable. So I'm letting other people in the community what kind of service u provide. So if my truth hurts, then ur lies & denial show. I don't need NONE of your blessings, your family member needs it more...
