Like so many experiences, sushi seems like a faraway dream, like something from another lifetime. (Reference to the pandemic, sign o the times.) Sushi Rock Grill just brought it back. I am swooning!
I ordered the seaweed salad, which made me sing and hum and dance around, it was that fresh. For appetizer, the agadashi tofu, which rivals any fried tofu with bonita flakes I have ever eaten in Japan, oishkatta! Their version comes on a bed of crisp lettuce and greens, with shaved daikon.
For sushi, I chose the Dancing Salmon Roll. I chose it for the salmon with lemon slices on top of the roll, and tempura shrimp inside. It was excellent. The salmon was fresh. (Salmon sashimi with lemon slivers is up there with jalapeno slivers on top of spicy tuna. Heavenly.)
The sushi here is the best on the beach. Hands down.
It is fresh and made with care. And more authentic than many places version of sushi. I am particular about the rice and the seaweed/nori. Sushi Rock Grill gets these right, and each piece of the roll was exquisite.
The service was great too. I called and ordered after my ride at Fort DeSoto and they brought my order out to me, which is so sweet.
On that note, I urge my beach neighbors, and tourists alike, to tip well. Yes, even for take out! These folks are working thru a pandemic and deserve every penny. Tip the sushi chefs too, please!!
Side note to Sushi Rock Grill owners: I noticed the restaurant has been completely remodeled. Nice! The Asian flair is gone, and it is missed. Tokyo Bay was authentic, and Iām pleased that the food is still excellent, but a Nekko Chan would not be out of place at the counter!
Please also consider switching from styrofoam to more compost friendly materials (even Hooters has made the switch!), as well as paper bags instead of plastic. Think of paper bags as another marketing opportunity, with customers walking out with paper bags with Sushi Rock Grill logo on them!
Iāll be back, soon. Thanks to the staff for making a great meal during...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I stopped in on a Friday night and were able to be seated right away. However, that wonāt last for long now that the secret is out of how amazingly tasty and delicious the food is. If you love sushi and Asian cuisine definitely give them a try to find out for yourself. We had the Chicken Satay and Veggie Spring roll as an appetizer, both delicious and a touch of a different flavor making them unique and enjoyable. We also had their house salad which you would think āokay, no big deal?ā but even their ginger house dressing did exactly that, dressed it up a notch!! Then onto our sushi rolls, mine - Spicy California, my husbandās - Godzilla, the presentation and flavoring was unlike others that we have ever had! We had been to this location before but it was formerly known as Tokyo Bay Japanese Restaurant & Sushi last time we were in town. While the food was good then, the atmosphere inside was old and dirty, we decided we wouldnāt return. However, once back in town and noticed the new sign, we decided to give them a try. As I mentioned, the food is delicious and WOW!!! did the new owner clean it up?! It is very clean inside and the decor is very updated and beautiful. Our waitress Casey was very good and on top of everything with our order. Also, I would like to mention the hostess was very upbeat, sweet, professional and on top of things! Unfortunately I did not get her name. Best wishes and success to Sushi Rock Grill, we will return again any time we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery disappointed, recently renovated so the decor is tasteful....but the lighting is so poor you are not able to read the menu because the print is so tiny and the restaurant is extremely dark. Our waitress was professional but she was not familiar with the items on the menu so I just ended up ordering California Rolls; because if you cant read the menu and the waitress has no clue which items contain raw fish (because of an autoimmune disease I am unable to consume) it is literally and figuratively a shot in the dark. Only 2 Sushi Chefs and both were inexperienced in slicing Salmon and Ahi Tuna, we waited over 45 minutes for our meal to arrive. Customers who call receive a pre-recorded message so those who wishing to place an order for take-out had to come in to order then waited over an hour for their order to be ready. Both owners were too distracted catering to friends to be concerned with the local customers. There entirely too many great places in St Petersburg to eat Sushi, don't waste your money or time at...
