I asked around for recommendations for must-try restaurants for my last night in STT, and every single person recommended Brooks. Well, they were all spot-on. The food is simple, down-home Caribbean fare, but it was all absolutely delicious. Seriously, it's amazing, plus the portion sizes are enough to feed a small army. It's a very simple, rustic place with no frills to speak of, which is perfect for the kind of amazing homemade food on offer as it keeps your focus squarely where it should be, on your plate.
I had the chicken alfredo, which was super rich and creamy and garlicky and had enough chicken for a piece with every single bite. There's no way I could finish it in one sitting, and I'm already willing myself to get hungry again so I can heat up the leftovers and continue the experience.
My dining companion had the stew pork with rice/beans, broccoli and mac & cheese, all of which were great. The pork was super tender and just melted in the mouth, plus the gravy it was stewed in was delightful on the rice. Looking forward to stealing some of those leftovers as well.
I usually hesitate to recommend smaller, hidden-gem type places like this lest they lose their charm and whatever makes them so good and unique, but honestly, these ladies don’t seem like the type to start switching to premade sides to start cranking out more volume. They deserve every bit of kudos and increased business we can send their way. They're just that good. If you're in the area (or even if you're on the other side of the island), it's...
Read moreBrooks serves decent food. As you arrive and enter the restaurant, it's definitely not much to look at. Hard to believe the ratings are so high. In any event, we had anchored in Megan's Bay for the night, dinghied to shore, and found a huge party cab to take us to the restaurant. It was the only place open for miles. The menu is limited. The place has a full bar, and a decent beer selection.
Most of the group had cocktails, primarily gin and tonic at our end of the table, served in red cups solo cups. No appetizers ordered; we went straight for the entrees. Fried whole red snapper and stewed goat for us. The fish was very good, the goat not so much. It sounded good at the time, and the waitress recommended it. Perhaps the kitchen just needed to get rid of some goat! LOL
Service was not good, as several waitresses rotated through our table during the evening. We had to re-order things several times. There appeared to be a manger onsite, but she didn't really pay much attention to the dining room. She stayed mostly in the kitchen. The bathroom was pretty bad...
As noted above, we went to Brooks because there was nothing else open close to Megan's Bay. If we have another night in Megan's Bay, we'd likely fix dinner onboard, which would definitely be an improvement over Brooks. Cannot recommend Brooks based upon our...
Read moreDown here a few times between October 2022 So the first thing I want everyone reading this review to know is that you are going to wait a HELLA LONG TIME for this food. We came here the night we arrived in St Thomas and I kid you not waited an hour for two plates of food to come to our table mind you everyone around us was only drinking people had already been finished eating, there were people that had ordered food before we got there, we decided to leave, couldn’t find nothing came back, got our food and they were still waiting for food, hence the low score. The food is good and will fill you maybe even need a to go box. We had their chicken stew it was so so, this was their oxtail, it’s not like a Jamaican tasting oxtail though. Any Jamaican like dishes that they have do not have a Jamaican like flavor just so you know. I was so hungry I didn’t even bother to take a photo of the first night‘s food which was a chicken stew and a whole fried fish, the whole fried fish was amazing very tasty huge fish. I highly recommend you order food ahead of time for pick up at least an hour ahead. It is also hard to understand them over the phone when placing an order but they do speak Spanish if that helps. Just make sure you have plenty of patience for this place. And the parking is...
