My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this unique hotel. It’s outside the hustle and bustle of the main town in a beautiful natural setting and is definitely more affordable than most resorts on the island. The view of Magen’s Bay and the surrounding jungle from our balcony was gorgeous. We enjoyed listening to the sounds of birds, frogs, and insects in the evening. Magen’s Bay is one of the best beaches on the island, so it was great that it was just a few minutes drive down the hill, but the closeness of the road does cause some traffic noise. There is a restaurant on the hotel property that is pretty good and the staff there are very kind and friendly. There is also a cafe/coffee shop on the property that is a very popular spot for people to stop on their way down to Magen’s Bay. Staff is great there and food and drinks are delicious. It’s a great breakfast option before going out to explore. The hotel itself has some pros and cons. If you’re expecting a fancy resort you will probably not be satisfied. Our room was clean, but had some quirks. Shower took at least ten minutes to heat up and water pressure was extremely low. Bathroom door didn’t close all the way and a lightbulb was out. That being said, the kitchen was great and super handy. It was stocked with all the tools we needed to make some of our own meals. The bed was comfortable and smart tv and AC both worked well. The property is beautiful. There are trees and flowering plants everywhere, as well as lizards, butterflies, birds, iguanas, chickens, and cats. At least a dozen feral cats live on the hotel property and are fed and cared for. They are super friendly and like to be pet, but don’t be surprised if you come across one pooping in a planter. There are two nice pools on the property and one hot tub, but it was not hot when we tried it and it didn’t heat up after we turned it on, as directed by the staff. The views from the pool deck over the trees and bay are stunning but you will also find some broken down vehicles in the parking lot and broken furniture and flower pots in corners of the property. There is a nice tennis court available, but no rackets to use or rent. At the time of our stay, there was no housekeeping services available, but we could request extra towels, toiletries, etc at certain times of day. Every staff member we interacted with was lovely and welcoming. With a little more attention to detail this place could be perfect. If you’re a fairly low maintenance guest and prioritize kind people, affordability, and a beautiful natural setting over amenities I think you’ll...
Read moreWanda at the front desk is amazing. Kind, friendly and helpful. She went above and beyond to make our family feel welcomed and she deserves the best! The view is great at this hotel and the food at the on site restaurant Route 42 is just ok. The servers were all lovely. The hotel pool seemed clean and the floors surrounding the pool deck were washed thoroughly each morning. The food, staff and coffee at North Side Grind cafe is wonderful. Only place on the island making a delicious cold brew coffee. If you are visiting this hotel, you must be comfortable with stairs. Our mother is not, and had a difficult time on the uneven terrain of the walkways and staircases. There are even steps to get inside of the room and then steps to get up to the bed if you have a “suite”. Room signs for a person in their 70’s was not clear and it was confusing for them to get around independently. This is a budget friendly hotel. Do not expect much or any attention to detail. Do not expect the wifi to work. On our second night during a shower at 7pm, the water turned off. The water did not turn on again anywhere in the hotel room until 8pm. We did not use any water aside from flushing the toilet and washing hands prior to the shower. We understand we are on an island but this was not acceptable. We paid $300 for two nights, (not very expensive) but we did expect basics like having water to wash with. The front desk phone number does not work and there was no one to ask for help. Despite staff being kind, I would not recommend staying at this hotel unless you are prepared to for a motel level stay with the most basic...

I don’t usually write reviews, but the experience at The Flamboyan was so awful that I want to warn others. Stayed here our last night on the island because the condo at Sapphire Beach Resort (stayed the previous 7 nights, on the water and for about $50 LESS) had been overbooked. The Flamboyan is the worst place I have ever stayed.
The air conditioners were not in working order. It was 85 and humid. We opened all the windows and smelled diesel fuel from the nearby generator. We were sweating all night.
There was no WiFi (although it is advertised on the site). The hotel claims to have cable television. They have about 6 channels (MSNBC, Cartoon Network, TBS). The college football bowl games were on and none of them were viewable from the “cable”.
My husband and I both got multiple bites that I suspect were bed bugs. The sheets had “specks” on them, further making me believe there were bed bugs.
The food at the on-site restaurant was mediocre. The bartender informed us they did not have a blender when I ordered a Bushwacker. There is no longer a convenience store (although it is still listed on the site). The bartender informed us it was demolished in the hurricane—over a year ago.
There were no other available rooms at that location (I definitely asked) and no other rooms on the island that we could find that had a fridge. I have had better sleep while camping in a tent. It was the absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and I paid $300. The owners should be embarrassed. It was a horrible ending to an otherwise...
