Visiting Riverside Roost filled me up- nutritionally and in a positive vibes sense! My family and I anticipated a quick to go visit, because three children can make a relaxing dining experience next to zero, but we walked into a child friendly atmosphere of life size connect four and coloring book options. Guilt free entertainment, better than the iPad option for a peaceful meal. All we heard were giggles as we ordered. The menu was a crowd pleaser for all! I decided to try the avocado toast, as it's my favorite at my local coffee shop in Queens, New York. The owner, Stephanie, came out from the back as I was ordering the regular avocado toast. She suggested the loaded avocado toast to be a better comparison in a taste test and I ended up getting both, and they were equally fantastic in their own way! I'm serious. I was impressed at the first bite. My family of five each ordered something they devoured, and then ordered more! So far the welcoming, family friendly atmosphere got me. The diverse menu and the prices were spot on. And the greatest aspect- the owner. A female, small business owner with delicious-positive energy, heart first in her work, and connecting with every costumer on a personal level. It solidified my opinion of female business owners being some of my absolute favorite people. She was the heart of it all, and an inspiration to me as she shared the journey of making her dream a reality. It made me want to take the back burner dream and light the biggest fire under the pot! Between the steady stream of customers, she shared the importance of choosing natural ingredients over premade food, which you can taste in her made from scratch cuisines. Everything looked incredible as she brought it out from the back. I could have stayed much longer soaking up all of her positive vibes. I am full in all forms and will tell everyone about...
Read moreThe Riverside Roost is seriously one of my favorite places! The owners and staff are amazing; they actually care about you and make you feel welcome, not just like another customer. You can tell they put a lot of heart into what they do.
Whether you want to hang out inside, enjoy the outdoor seating, or just grab something to-go, they’ve got options for whatever vibe you’re feeling. The food is always great, and they even have a kids’ menu, which is perfect for families.
They’ve also made it a fun spot for kids, with coloring activities and a big Connect 4 game to keep them entertained while you eat.
As someone in a wheelchair, I can say it's accessible. There’s a ramp to the right of the stairs, and while there’s a small ledge at the door, most wheelchairs can get in with just a little push. It’s easy enough to manage.
Parking is shared with the surrounding area and used for various local activities, including fishing and shopping. While there aren’t clearly marked handicap-accessible spots, there is an angled space toward the back with extra room that may accommodate wheelchair vans. This isn’t the café’s fault, as the lot is not exclusively theirs, but it’s something to note for those who need that kind of access.
Overall, The Riverside Roost is just an awesome place with great people and good energy. If you haven’t been yet, you’re definitely...
Read moreThe food speaks for itself, see the yummy pics. Even things I HATE, like tomatoe soup? I love Steph's tomato soup and would order it again. The quiche, the cookie bars, the spicy avocado toast, the bluebird toast, the breakfast burrito, etc.... I've made it a goal to eat my way through the menu and have made it through about 75%. My biggest challenge is remembing what I've had and doing something different. And now Steph has added specialty gourmet coffees to her menu- even better!
Steph, Jodi, Ian, AQudrey, and Bill are so friendly and awesome. They go above and beyond to ensure a good experience, whether it's Steph convincing me to try the tomato soup or Jodi with her big smile or little Audrey with her giggles and cheerfulness... Everyone is so welcoming!
The location is a bit out of the way; it's behind the gym and bank off the main drag through Oak Harbor. But the view of the river is phenomenal, and there's an outside patio with tables and chairs and umbrellas. Inside is bright and cheerful; it reminds this New Englander of the ocean with the greens and browns and water view. Definitely a great place to hang out and do my work- great start to my...
