This little gem in Salem, Oregon is one of the places my wife and I will frequent whenever we are in the area. It's kind of out in the middle of nowhere but that's one of the great appeals of this restaurant. It sits right on the runway of the Salem Municipal Airport and has been open since the late 1960's. We love to go there for dinner mostly but have been there a few times for lunch and even brunch. My wife loves the homemade meatloaf and Chicken Marsala. I am a HUGE fan of the Chicken Almond Crunch! I get that almost every time we go for dinner. It's a shame at the moment that we are devoid of being able to frequent our favorite eateries. So, while I have some free time, I am happy to post some reviews for places I had been meaning to for quite awhile. My wife and I have never had a bad meal here and the atmosphere is casual (Very "aeronautic", when you sit in the dining area, you will immediately know what I am talking about.), the staff is super friendly and occasionally even the guys in the kitchen have a good time. They have a full-service bar with cocktails that do not disappoint! When you enter the building you are sitting on the second floor overlooking the small airport where occasionally you get to see small airplanes both come in and take off from. In the spring and summer it's especially nice in the evening as you also get to see the colorful sunsets as well. Overall this is a wonderful spot with BETTER than average food, good service, nice views and a casual atmosphere. If you are ever in Salem, my spouse and I highly recommend checking out the Flight Deck Restaurant for any meal! YES, they have happy-hour too - from 4 to 6 pm, M-F if I am not mistaken. Might want to check the...
Read moreWe came in this morning and although it was a bit busy, we've seen the restaurant busier before. Our meal was brought before we had silverware, and I had to request my omelet be warmed up because the prime rib steak was cold. Then my son complained of his biscuits being cold so we asked for that to be warmed up too. We got his plate back just to realize there was dough in the middle of the biscuits. There was no explanation to our bill and when I asked if we could take the biscuits off, I was told they could only do 50%. We didn't eat any of that meal because of the raw dough. There was poor responses from the waitress, the cooks were visually frustrated with each other because they had 2 complaints, and I paid for food that was not safe to eat. I tried to be extremely understanding through the whole thing and I was kind in my requests. I completely get being busy, under staffed, and just plain having a mistake made. But paying for uncooked biscuits my son couldn't eat and the response of "I'm not authorized to do anymore" I should have walked out without paying at all. Then I would have been treating them with the same lack of respect I felt. Instead I paid and wrote a note on the merchant receipt in hopes someone would see it and maybe adjustments may be made for future customers. Unfortunately we used to frequent this restaurant often and now we won't be back.
The young gentleman clearing the plates gave the best customer service. He was able to get me the box I had asked for so my son could bring his extra English muffin (so he still had something for breakfast) with us that we also...
Read moreThis wasn't the dining experience I was expecting for the price point. Our meal of two entrees, with water (no other drinks), and tip came to $60. The first thing I noticed was the noise, the sticky floors, and the casual attire (see pajama bottoms) of the other patrons. I was expecting a classier atmosphere. The high ceilings and small space lent itself to a very noisy experience. But all could have been overlooked if our food had come out correctly. We waited to place our order (10 mins) then we waited for our food (30 minutes? 45?) and then the server brought out the wrong meal for my husband. She read her notes wrong and entered the wrong entrée. But the real frustration was that after she promised us a prompt fix another patron received the same meal that my husband had ordered. So his dinner walked past our table while he waited... and waited... and waited. What arrived (after I had finished my entire meal) was a entrée that I could have pulled together in a fraction of the time. The macaroni and cheese was clearly cheese sauce poured over noodles (not baked) and topped with a sprinkling of unmelted cheese. I can't imagine how it took the kitchen 30 minutes to prepare his meal. The only redeeming aspect of the evening was the server's pleasant nature. But even her cheerfulness won't convince me to return unless there is an airshow, or something really interesting to accompany...
