Mamma Antonia's — Restaurant in Salem

My wife and I had to travel to Effingham for an appointment. It was a long drive from home. We enjoy finding new places to eat so we are always on the lookout. We looked for a place in Salem to get some pizza and found this place on Google Maps. It had a rating of 4.2 so we gave it a try. This restaurant is nothing fancy but it is a clean and pleasant place. I often judge the cleanliness of a restaurant by the condition of the bathroom. This place is kept VERY clean. The server we encountered was a very sweet and competent young lady. We ordered a thin crust all meat pizza. I have been saving the best part of this review for last. The pizza was honestly one of the best pizzas I have ever had. I was very impressed and I will be coming back when I am in the area. I cannot wait to try some of the other varieties. The restaurant is not a far drive from the interstate and if you are reading this while traveling you will not regret a short detour off I-57 to get some pizza you will not forget. Legit the best 🤤 I ate here for the first time yesterday and now I’m trying to find an excuse to drive from Effingham once a week just to eat here. The salad with their creamy house Italian was delicious and their chicken Alfredo was phenomenal. I woke up this morning and decided I was going to have my leftover Alfredo for breakfast. I also had fried raviolis and they were chefs kiss I don’t like red sauce much but I tried a bite of the lasagna and it was good. The wait staff was friendly and fast and the bathrooms were clean. I paid over $70 for my meal. When I got home the pizza was not right at all. I called and explained what happened and was told, sorry we have a lot of new people, understandable, so I asked if I could just get a credit for next time and was told they could not do that tonight, so I said can you just make me another pizza to replace the one that was not right and I would go get it. Again, I was told sorry we can’t do that either. After a discussion I was finally told we can refund your card a “few” dollars but it won’t be very much.
