This must have been our fourth time coming to this restaurant, found it to be a great spot after hitting the slopes & getting a quick bite before heading home. Food has always been great and always been treated with amazing service from the owner, himself & his staff. However, this last time we went in and most likely will be the last time we will ever go was when I brought a friend, & ordered two chicken sandwiches. The owner will know exactly who we are once he sees this review. My friend forgot to mention about changing her bread to the gluten free option when she initially ordered. Remembered about 5 minutes after the order had been placed, told the server & the message was sent to the kitchen. The owner comes out annoyed of the inconvenience and proceeds to tell my friend that because of her mistake she now cost him a bun of sandwich. Proceeded to give her a lecture over insisting that he isn’t afraid to tell her that she just made him waste food. Keep in mind, it’s an extra dollar to change to that type of bread, which she paid the difference and even included a cookie in the order to make the credit card charge worth it. Let me also add that it was “busy” when we walked in & there were multiple orders that went in after us. I have worked in the service industry before and know that customers forget to mention things or make mistakes & then it’s up to the restaurant to take that L, it’s apart of being in the restaurant industry. But that’s not even the case here that bun could’ve been used for a separate order that came in after ours, like I said there was only a couple of minutes of delay & as long it takes for food to come out, I don’t think anyone would have missed out on the quality of food and no waste would’ve been made. But the emphasis to lecture a customer about how a business works is not good service. It was a mistake, no evil intention was made. If anything like I have mentioned, we were very intentional in our apology when we were paying the difference. I also overheard the sever talking to a local customer about how many local restaurants are closing down and it’s hard to keep businesses a float since it’s a small town. I completely understand about not wanting to waste food and how businesses might be struggling. However, then the owner went on to talk to that local customer & asked how his day was going, & he said “oh just having a crabby day, it needs to be the end of the day already”. I will assure you that the owner was in a great mood before our little mistake, even greeted us, participated in small talk but as soon as that little mistake was done his whole demeanor changed toward US. Wouldn’t acknowledge us and making smart remarks while we were still present. So we felt that comment was targeted at us. Making us feel unwelcome. The food is amazing, but will never return with that type of treatment. So if you have all your ducks in a row, & never make a mistake, this place is for you. & if you do make mistakes & don’t mind being talked down to when you do, go for it! Oooor just make sure the owner is having a good day, so that way you’re not the punching bag.

& before the owner wants to say, why didn’t we bring this up to him in person, well from the review you can already tell he wasn’t in the mood to take any feedback. Maybe by giving feedback through this avenue he can understand that this is how things are NOW, & people will come in to your business, pretend you can treat them anyway you want, leave & place reviews like this. No one will be silenced because of bully treatment. No matter how good your food is, it needs to be accompanied with good service to make the restaurant reputable.

Thank you and wish you nothing but the best in...

Hungry from a day of travel, we stopped in to the Crossroads Cafe looking for a local place to get a quality burger. We found that and more. The owner greeted us, coming from the kitchen where he was making a fresh batch of cookies. He said we could stop back in in an hour for some warm ones.

We ordered the More than Bacon burger which came topped with pastrami and Swiss. We added L,T,O, and mustard and swapped out the swiss for some provolone along with a side of fries to split. We were tempted by the Gyro burger because of a promise of horseradish and feta tzaziki but we’re halted by gyros earlier in the week.

The fries were clearly fresh cut. They came out hot and crisp, while fluffy and salted just right. The burger was thin and juicy, the toppings held their snap. He had made a boat out of foil to accommodate the side of BBQ sauce I asked for to avoid the use of excess plastic ♻️

The quality was easy to find in this meal. We wanted to take some of that with us. I asked if we could purchase a sizable amount of his housemade tzaziki but unfortunately was making it in small batches so didn’t have enough to sell. He kindly brought a small sample for us to finish up our fries. We would surely go...

Loved it! We were visiting from out of town and looking for a “real” hamburger- not one of those nasty pre-formed burgers. We read the reviews and decided to take a chance. Boy, are we glad we did! The 3 of us tried different burgers and they were each fabulous. Bacon was cooked to perfection- no “slap-you-in-the-face” bacon, it was fried nice and crisp. Tomatoes were fresh and not grainy. Lettuce was healthy and green. Everything was Spot. On. Their fries were amazing. Our family is tough to please when it comes to fries and they N-A-I-L-E-D THEM! They were SO good! Oh! Don’t miss out on their homemade tzatziki sauce. You can have it on the burger or dip your fries in it. BOOM! Eric, the owner came out and visited with us and made us feel welcome and appreciated. They even brought out some fresh water for our Chocolate Lab and offered her a special pup burger. Dog lovers love it when you love their dogs!! ❤️ We will definitely come back and will recommend it to friends and family that visit the area. Don’t miss this one- almost at the end of...

I got Cubano special, tasty and well-made Cubano, the right amount of smoked pork, mustard, pickle, ham, and swiss. Every bite was delicious. My partner got the classic burger; the patty was juicy and fresh meaty flavor. Both of our orders came with fries and seriously one the best fries I ever had; fresh-cut, crispy with seasoning. Before we left, I also picked up a full rack of pork ribs, coming from Tennessee; these ribs were outstanding; with superb smoke balance and perfect seasoning as well. And the owner is down to earth rockstar of a chef and host! Truly a gem in Salida and must try place.

Me and the wife went out on the motorcycle with no particular plan and ended up here 2 hours later. I regret that I do not remember the owners name but he was very nice and we had several conversations about motorcycles and business as I am also a business owner. It’s small but the Atmosphere is awesome, the food is absolutely delicious and if you are in the area definitely give it a try. We would gladly ride 2 hours there for lunch anytime!!!

Great locally produced food. Burger and hand cut fries were awesome 👍. Hands down best burger in Salida and the Upper Arkansas Valley. Eric is extremely friendly and proud of his local eatery, and a Mega Widespread Panic fan. He was extremely busy on the Saturday we experienced his food, but he took the time to chat with us on his pet friendly patio dining area. Simple but quality tasting food. We'll be back... Recommend!
