I saw a lot of good reviews for this place, so perhaps my experience was a fluke - an awful, awful fluke. Quick summary: Dirty, gross, but cheap.
After arriving, we passed by one table that was visibly contaminated with spilled liquids. We sat at another table only to end up with the menu stuck to an invisible spill. We settled on a third table that had a stained seat, but at least the surface was clean.
For an appetizer, we ordered cheese fries that were served overcooked, brittle and greasy. The ranch dressing provided with the plate was in plastic cups that had damaged seals. Not at all appetizing.
I had ordered potato salad with my sandwich. The sandwich arrived without the side. I inquired after it. The waitress came back and said they did not have any, so I asked for pasta salad instead. The pasta salad I was served tasted exactly like the runny slop sold by the bucket-gallon at Walmart. I am not a fan.
The sandwich was slightly below "meh". It was on par with a Subway sandwich, which is to say it was edible, but not appetizing. I couldn't even get through half of it. Of course, my appetite had probably been killed by the general filth and sloppiness encountered up to that point.
When the waitress returned, she must have seen we had barely touched our food. She said "You all will need some boxes." I replied "I won't." But she was very cheerful and brought us boxes anyway. We packed our "food" away, and then tried to pawn the boxes off on one another. "Your husband will eat this, right? No? How about the dog? No? Well if you make me take it home, it is going in the outside garbage, so at least try to see if your dog will eat it."
One bright spot was that our bill was incredibly low. The writing on the bill was illegible, so who knows if it was even ours? We asked each other, how could it possibly be this cheap? Then I looked at the slatwall paneling and thought - oh yeah, it could...
Read moreTried this place a couple of times over the last week with mixed results. The sandwiches were decent but nothing to write home about (soft-shell crab was fried correctly and wasn't greasy but was fairly tasteless like maybe they used a female crab or a frozen imported crab but I don't know, the liverwurst sandwich was good and was a generous portion), the staff seemed pretty friendly, and overall the place was clean. We also came in for the Sunday brunch buffet and I was very disappointed. Most of the items seemed pre-made or heat and serve from sysco, a lot of the items you would expect to be warm (biscuits, French toast) were cold and "cold" items were warm (coleslaw, fruit), there were a lot of flies on the food, the fruit had gone mushy and started to brown, and it seemed like a bad idea to have the clean plates right next to the bathroom door (saw people come out shaking water off their hands near the plates). There was really nothing but run of the mill breakfast items done in mediocre fashion and certainly nothing that warranted a $11 per person price tag. After the bad experience with the buffet we decided to try a couple of subs to see if they were any better especially since the place is convenient to where we live and we like to support local businesses. Again mixed results. The girl on the phone seemed very distracted and I had to repeat my order over the phone 4 times (speaking loud and clear enunciating each word) which became pretty frustrating and is curious because when we got there 10 mins later it was empty but who knows. The food was OK the steak on my sub seemed a little muddy like it was a bit old but there was a fair amount of it. Again the place was not all bad the staff overall was nice and the dinning room looked clean but I would stick to the deli sandwiches...
Read moreClean, tasty and so much to choose from! Nestled in the same shopping center with Food Lion. Open inviting Deli with a very nice wait staff. My wife and I enjoyed an early dinner/late lunch around 4pm. Two girls checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. I had an open face roast beef with fries and gravy. Roast beef was on point! Almost hated dousing it with the gravy but hard to beat a warm gravy covered meal in this cooler weather! My wife had a Ribeye steak! Yep. They had a special Ribeye which came out seasoned perfectly. It would rival or beat most of the chain restaurant steak houses in this area on any day but for the cut and size, at a fraction of the cost. The fries were crisp and salted. The coleslaw was tasty and not overly juiced. We split a bowl of the fresh made from scratched vegetable beef soup as an appetizer. Very good. Very fresh! We salted it a pinch but we are southern and like everything bold and salty. I would say they left it that way on purpose to appeal to everyone's tastes buds. We saw on the menu they had spicy shrimp, deli sandwiches, boars head meats, desserts, a breakfast menu and daily/weekly specials too! We loved it. We can not wait to go back and eat our way through the menu. A definite must try. Something...
