Fantastic food, great atmosphere and music, we love this place!!! Wish we had one of these back home. We're here in San Antonio for the first time visiting friends for the weekend, and they said this place is a must. Wound up coming back here 3 times in 3 days, everything is just super delicious. We'd happily come yet again tomorrow and go 4 for 4, but we leave tomorrow, and they're closed Monday anyway it seems. But absolutely the best Homemade Cheesecake we ever ate ! I normally don't even care for cheesecake that much but theirs was something special. Best waffles we ever ate, and I mean ever, as in my whole life, anywhere, period, end of story ! ("Fraises and Crème" / Strawberries and homemade whipped cream was my personal fave, their whipped cream is really homemade and tastes that way, and I could eat it by the bowlful all by itself if they would serve it like that ! To die for ! Seriously. Dump me headfirst in a vat full of that stuff and I would happily eat my way out ! ). And best hot chocolate we've had in a very long time, a nice treat in this unexpectedly cold weather here, it reminds me of this wonderful hot chocolate we had in Paris 2 years ago during our honeymoon. This place is really a one-of-a-kind, a true gem. Can't beat a place that's got Natalie Merchant and Damian Rice blaring in the background, combined with some truly awesome homemade desserts. They were super busy each time we were there and probably could've used more help/staff for the kind of crowds they had, but the people who were working there seemed very capable and professional. It's a nice change to see "real adults" working a store like this instead of like most place these days where everything is staffed by a bunch of teenagers. Nothing against teens but you all know what I mean. On our first time ordering the menu felt a bit overwhelming and there's a lot of French language going on, but the man running the store was very nice and very helpful in patiently explaining everything to us. It all made for a great experience worth...
Read moreClassy joint, excellent food, I really like what they're doing here. Our hotel concierge was spot on with his recommendation. I was in Brussells (Belgium) last year so I totally get what they've got going on in this joint. Seems like they essentially recreated what a Brussells dessert shop and eatery looks like over there, and stuck it right in the heart of Downtown San Antonio of all goshdarn places! So anyway, we actually popped in specifically for dessert but I wound up wolfing down one of their paninni sandwiches first because I still had an empty spot. Gotta give these people props, that was one righteous tasty sandwich amigos ! Basically I guess it was just a Belgian version of a ham and cheese sandwich, but they toast the bread just right, and have this herb concoction on there that was outta this world delicious. I asked afterwards what it was, the counter girl said it was garlic and "some other herbs," but I could tell she was gettin cheeky with me and wasn't sure she was supposed to tell me exactly what it was. So I didn't want to press her any further and maybe get her in trouble, so I left it at that. But it was super tasty whatever it was, let me tell you. Of course the original mission was actually dessert, we didn't forget about that. My bud had their home made peanut butter and banana ice cream which I sampled, and it was also a righteously fine cup of ice cream. Damn good. I had an order of profteroles, some kindof pastry thing filled with cream, and topped with ice cream and their special chocolate sauce. Again, quite righteous, this was some serious varsity dessert eatin' ! We will definitely be back here again before we...
Read moreYou'll appreciate the artwork displayed on the walls when you walk into this sweets shop. But the real art is under the case glass display, a variety of cakes, deserts and savory quiche. One of my favorites is the chocolate ganache cake. It's richly layered and moist when you take a bite. The chocolate shines in the cake and is balanced by the richness of the ganache. Definitely, a birthday treat! Another favorite is the apple pie with the apple slices layered on top of the crust. My recommendation is to have it with one of the in-house ice cream selections available. The pie has a bit of tartness with the sweet, balancing each other. Sometimes, when I've had a big meal before, the apple pie is still a wonderful treat on its own. And I won't forget to mention the large chocolate chip cookies sprinkled with sea salt, every bite with the perfect mix of crunch and moist will leave a bit of sweet fireworks melting in your mouth. On the savory side, there are vegetarian and meat quiche. Vegeterian is the way we go (our dietary preference) and the ones we've tried are delicious. There is more, but I'll let you discover these on your own if it's your first time. I won't spoil the sweet surprises...
