Fred's Fish Fry — Restaurant in San Antonio

Only because my family has fond memories of going to Fred's when they were young with their family, I'd say I love Fred's, but in all fairness, I don't know anyone who could honestly say they Love Thier food. It's cafeteria school lunch processed fish patties, or nuggets and the same goes for their chicken. They also used to be a good place that I looked forward to go often because for the box of 3 frozen fish patties and 2 pieces of bread with a packet of tartar sauce and a small amount of shoe string french fries was priced inexpensively as the food was also cheap processed frozen foods cooked in a deep fryer and thrown in a box. RECENTLY in the past 2 years the prices have gone up. That same box of fish my best friend and I could each get for under 10$ and get a small tub of tarter sauce also now costs 7$ per box and over 1$ for the small tarter sauce (as extra) with there still being a little bigger tub of their tarter sauce Wich we used to get and share is $2+ now. We still go to Fred's, but it's not the quaint little cheap (inexpensive) place we used to call and pick up boxes of fried fish we used to frequent a few times per week. For the 18$ we spend on the 2 of us, we can get a quality fish dinner from a more upscale place with a better quality fish and probably even a bun instead of 2 pieces of bread in the box. I ordered the Fish Platter #2 which includes three pieces of fish, three shrimp, french fries, bread, tartar sauce and ketchup. Also i bought an order of onion rings.

When i got back to my office, there was no shrimp and the onion rings were extra, extra crispy with charred pieces of breading. The fish reminded me of school cafeteria lunch fish and the french fries were cold. My coworkers asked where I bought my lunch from. They saw the branded packaging and commented for the same price I could have gotten the higher quality Fisherman’s Plate at Laguna Madre.
