Plaza’s Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in San Antonio

I have been doing a TikTok series where I try different Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants in San Antonio that I have never been to before. Usually, I am able to find restaurants when driving by them or a simple search, however, most my followers have been suggesting some of their favorites, which lead me straight to Plaza's Mexican Restaurant!

First, the location's address is now 1516 Basse Rd, San Antonio, TX 78213, which is only a few blocks north from where they were previously located.

We walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner and her daughter, who I recognized from TikTok! Happy coincidence!! We sat ourselves and immediately our server handed us menus. The ambiance is super casual and the restaurant was very clean. They have an old school jukebox that I imagine you can jam out to some Tejano music on!

What we ordered:

2 Bacon, Egg and Cheese Tacos Cheese Enchilada Plate Carne Guisada Plate #25 Regular Plate - 1 cheese enchilada, carne guisada, 1 tamale

I absolutely love that their carne guisada was cut in small cubes. I usually have to cut up my carne guisada when I order it at other places. The tortillas were hot, fresh and fluffy! I can see why so many people love and frequent this place. The service is excellent, the food is well seasoned, the enchiladas were that yummy Tex-Mex American cheese. I can't wait to return!

Wonderful, authentic "Tex-Mex" food, quality, fresh and very tasty, ample selection of perfectly designed "plate combinations," or ala carte, great tortillas, breakfast tacos, enchiladas, puffy tacos, carnitas rancheras, tripas, everything you're craving in "local, regional" flavor, excellent daily specials that include coffee or tea, very reasonably priced! Friendly, family owned, casual atmosphere. And, unlike a lot of places, they still have "GREEN" jalapeno chile or salsa, a Texas staple, and tasty, versatile red chile/salsa! If the salsa doesn't cut it, it doesn't cut it for me, because I eat a lot of salsa, it is a "major" component of my meal, period. Yup! ...

I have been a customer of Plaza's Mexican Restaurant for many years. I'm partial to their Chilequeles plate but all the food is very good. They have good flour tortillas and the atmosphere is friendly and casual. This is a family restaurant and their customers are members of various families. They are a Neighborhood restaurant and generations of families frequent this establishment. The owners, Alice and Susie have years of restaurant experience and are great hostesses that make you feel welcome and are accommodating.
