The food is pretty good, fajitas aren't spectacular but the breakfast tacos are really good, especially the barbacoa. And you can't beat the view 👀
UPDATE 10/04/22: I really want to like this place because I love the concept. The only way you could improve on Hooter's, in my opinion, is a "Mexican Hooter's" which, like someone said in a previous review, is what this place strives to be - Mexican food instead of wings and scantily clad Latinas (with special days of the week like lingerie day 😍). Or, in other words, my idea of heaven. Plus, I live right across the street, so I've been here at least a dozen times. Out of all my visits here the only things that have been consistent every time are: The waitresses are all super sweet, but if you don't speak any Spanish you might have some trouble ordering, especially making modifications to the plates, which isn't all that uncommon for smaller Mexican restaurants here. Unfortunately, that's where the 'pros' end, and the 'cons' are bad enough to outweigh them heavily. In my previous review I had commented that the food, the breakfast tacos in particular, is "pretty good" which was honestly me being very kind, and in San Antonio, where there's a Mexican food place every other mile in any direction, "pretty good" food usually won't cut it. A few times that I've eaten here the food was acceptable at best. I think of the four or five times that I've ordered barbacoa tacos, for instance, only once were they not overly greasy and even tho they have always been filled with a generous portion of meat, only the one time was the meat not way to fatty, even for barbacoa. And today, which in all likelihood will be my last visit here, the food was the worst out of all my visits. They used to use (at least decent) quality, shredded cheddar cheese in their Migas tacos, but have apparently switch to using... I'm not even sure, maybe Velveeta? Or low-quality, shredded American cheese? Or it might have even been liquid cheese that hardened together into one nasty clump. I don't know, I didn't eat it, I took out the cheese and anything with cheese stuck to it, and by doing so was left with a taco that was about half the size. Although I didn't even finish that because the remaining taco innards were bland and it just didnt seem like it was worth eating after forcing down a few bites, and I only did that much because I was, and honestly still am, starving. To top that off, the bottled OJ I overpaid for was really dark because, come to find out, it was expired. Granted, it was only expired by a day, but the only reason I noticed it's darkness or the expiration date was because I took a swig and could tell something wasn't right with it. This review is already too long of a way to convey my disappointment. TLDR: DON'T Eat here. Apparently it's more of a bar that also serves food, not a restaurant that serves alcohol. I don't drink anymore, so I couldn't tell you how the drinks are, but they must be somewhat decent enough to keep the place open, because it sure isn't the food.
(I had taken a picture of the inside of the taco to show the cheese, but apparently my awesome phone...
Read moreThis review is for the Bandera Location in Leon Valley. Service, Service, Service! That is what you will get at this location. Really good service if you like the show. However, more than likely if you go for the food you will not be overly impressed. The food is good. Its San Antonio, and its the quintessential Mecca of Mexican cuisine. Its almost like going to New York and not getting a pizza. Rained delayed and hungry we pulled into this location and the first thing we noticed was...my sister was the only girl in the restaurant that was not a server at 8 am. No big deal, the place was clean and the staff very accommodating. The menu is not overly robust, however, on our quest to find the "Best Taco" in town, it was very suitable. We stayed with staples like Carne Guisada, Barbacoa, Picadillo, Chicharron con Huevo and Chorizo con Huevo. They provided a very pleasant salsa verde style sauce. We had both corn and flour tortilla to sample the differences and dug in. Its hard to say a taco is a taco is a taco when you love taco's, however, in this case...it was a taco. Nothing special and memorable can be said about the taco's other than they were tacos. They were nothing special, or over the moon taco's, however, they were good. Authentic, San Antonio style breakfast taco's. I guess you have to ask for Pico de Gallo or cilantro and onion if you want them on your plain taco. Soft drinks are sold in a can, so no free fountain refill here. While we ate, one of the server girls karaokes, and in between the semi-pleasant variations of Tejano ballads there is traditional Mexican Music. This review is not meant to negatively impact this establishment based on taco's. They have a varied menu to accommodate just about everyone. Their service was good, and the facilities were clean. The atmosphere is geared towards men, and they were the majority (besides my sister) who were there. As an avid foodie who was raised in San Antonio and had some of the best taco's from hole in the walls, off street vendors and trucks, this was not the place to ignite that same passion I had once upon a time. If your in San Antonio and you want a different experience, please try this place. If anything, you will get some awesome service, a bit of a peep show, and traditional...
Read moreI would have given a -10 if I could. This was a disappointing experience that could have been corrected had the Manager not have a nasty and defensive attitude. While at an appointment my hair dresser and her assistant expressed interest in this place being that it was right across the street. I then googled their menu and decided on chicken nachos with jalapeños and sour cream. The picture shows this is not what I got. The assistant then went back over to have the order corrected and the manager stated that,”if she doesn’t like it, she doesn’t like it and I will refund her.” I just wanted what I ordered and paid for. I was then told that they could not refund me unless they had my card. I had to wait until my hairdresser was finished who because of my treatment decided to return her meal (which had no utensils by the way). He also made it a point to tell me that I can go somewhere else during our phone conversation. The manager refunded me but we expressed our concern, treatment, and just blatant disrespect. He basically told us that customers come and go and that he really did not care about correcting a mistake that he made. He also told us that because they had been there for 11 years they are unconcerned by a dissatisfied customer. The time he took to be so disrespectful and unhelpful, he could have fixed my order. It was literally adding chicken (which I asked and paid for), change the packaging and just give good customer service. They care less about retaining customers because they are so confident in their business model but judging by the 3 people in the restaurant and the quality of their food… they could...
