Sounds like an STD, tastes like a healthy TEX-mex restaurant! Don't let the name scare you, picking a name a la 'Purple Cow' marketing theory doesn't quite scream vegan friendly Mexican. It screams the feeling of confusion. The name falls short on immediately suggesting Mexican Vegeterian. If sales suddenly ever go down I suggest revisting the name. The stuffed avocado could have had more protein as substance and a base of vegetables in a sofrito to bring flavor to a somewhat bland base of avocados layed over raw kale. The kale could have been lathered with even more dressing or quickly charred to bring flavor out. A good Mexican kale meal might include roasted pumpkin seeds, almonds or walnuts sometimes peanuts to compliment the green crunch. For $10, the stuffed avocados were scant of more protein and devoid of volume through sauce or attention to detail through having more ingredients as the base such as celery, caramelized onion, garlic, capers and pimentos. For being vegan in Texas those ingredients abound and several important iconic Mexican meals have been forgotten. I commend the restaurant for keeping the menu easy to understand and easy on the kitchen. There are several varieties of moles out there that have vegetable bases like the mole verde that can be used as dressings. The owners should immediately take a trip to Mexico City, D.F. to get inspired and see what the gold standard for vegan Mexican food is. Located in Mexico City the establishment: 'Ahimsa Cocina Consceinte' in the DF neighborhood of Linda Vista cooks vegan tacos al pastor, carnitas, tingas, and authentic preparations like alambres, huaraches, amongst classics that you've already interpreted like chillaquiles and flautas but others sorely missing from your menu. For being an omnivore the tacos al pastor from Ahimsa will forever fool you for being real meat and you'll always remember the vegan tacos callejeras, something your menu needs. I suggest eating, then asking for ingredients' sources and recipe. The owners are a couple and real nice. See image of Vegan mole with cauliflower. Rather simplistic...

I have been a regular at Viva Vegeria for years through changes in management and ownership. Ultimately, this restaurant is a hidden gem.

Update: food quality has improved recently and the restaurant is better than ever. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful vegan restaurant with such a tasty healthy menu and thank for for choosing to service the southside of San antonio. I really appreciate it.

This is some of the best vegan tex mex perhaps in the entire USA(IS THERE A CONTEST?)

In recent years, the restaurant has changed ownership, undergone reservations, and the ingredients are very fresh. These changes are for the better. Favorites are mushroom street tacos, and mole poblano.

Great all vegan tex mex spot. One of the only country and only 2 in the Historic City of San Antonio-- Viva Vegeria serves up a number of daily special dishes, entrees, and more that stay true to the tex mex tradition yet all vegan! Even meat lovers will love this place if they have an open mind. The cakes and pastries along with the small vegan market and outdoor seating make this a a great family spot. Some dishes are hit and miss like tamales and chilaquiles. But others like the street races and chile relleno are amazing. Also BYOB for $5 and brunch on...

Over the years something has been going on behind the scenes. This place has such amazing authentic Mexican food- and as someone who is Mexican-American and vegan this restaurant has opened the doors on my immediate family's way of thinking about plants and animal rights. But over the last year mostly the staff has gone downhill. I know they are currently having a staffing issue. When you call to place an order someone will pick up, huff on the phone and hang up immediately when you try to say hello. My fiance then called a few days later to place a tamale order over the phone. The worker was very short and rude to him saying his name was wierd to spell, and just huffing every 2 seconds like we pestering her. But again knowing that maybe things are happening we choose kindness. We were told to come today to pick up our order to only be told it wouldn't be ready for 3 more days?? I'm very confused now. Especially taking time and Gas to drive down to this restaurant, all because they said it was ready. I hope something changes for the better, because their food and message is...
