We visited yesterday (Sunday afternoon) and loved the food and presentation. We ate outdoors on the small patio even though it was quite cool (one of our party has a deathly fear of COVID). Service, right from the start, was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We were the only ones on the patio at first, but the servers kept track of us and checked on us frequently. On the recommendation of two of our party (who had been there before), we started with the Brussels sprouts appetizer. Que? I am not a fan of Brussels sprouts, but I may be converted after tasting these. They are wonderfully flavored and lightly sauteed - great dish to start. We also got the "Devils on Horseback" (6 Palm desert dates stuffed with blue cheese, wrapped in prosciutto and a maple-bourbon glaze). It was late enough in the afternoon for us to have an early dinner, so we all went for full dinner items. I had the Ribeye - thick, flavorful, with a rosemary-garlic butter. One of the best Ribeye's I have had - great flavor, very low amounts of gristle, just the right amount of fat. My wife had the Scottish Salmon, which she said was very good, although after seeing and hearing the other menu choices, she would have preferred the meatloaf. M. had the 50/50 Bison meatloaf - ground grass-fed bison, topped with Manchego cheese and pork brisket. He exclaimed that it was very very good, and would definitely get it again. S. had the 1/2 rack of lamb and loved it. All the meals were accompanied by chef's vegetables (thin-to-medium sliced vegetables in a rich butter sauce), plus Yukon whipped potatoes (the Salmon came over a coconut-sweet potato puree). We finished with some desserts. A creme brulee made with Chambord, a "Jeremy's Signature Triple Layer Carrot Cake" (huge, standing upright, with plenty of cake, cream, and carrot), and my choice (unanimously voted the winner after they all demanded tastes) - the "Cast Iron Apple Cobbler" (see photo - unfortunately it was quickly attacked when it arrived, so the photo doesn't do the presentation justice). The Apple Cobbler was outstanding - so delicious we reduced it to nothing - it is a good idea to have some help with this - it is pretty large for a single dessert serving! To wash all this down we had glasses of wine from mostly local regional wineries - all quite good. I had a glass of the Cycles Gladiator, which turned out to be a nice, well-balanced Cabernet. Others had a La Serenissima Claret, and some Chateau Saint Michelle Riesling. Inside looked interesting - I plan on trying the indoor dining next time, and we will definitely be back. Jeremy's On The Hill is well worth a visit. The food is spectacular, the service is great, and the location between Santa Ysabel and Julian...
Read moreMy husband and I have been coming to Jeremy’s on the Hill every year for our anniversary. We always looked forward to our visits because the food and services was great in the past. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was completely different and very disappointing.
When we arrived and were seated, we noticed right away that we were the only ones in the dining room. There were about four families sitting outside, but the dining room, which is usually full on a Saturday, was completely empty. It immediately felt odd because the restaurant is normally busy. My husband decided to look up some recent reviews to see if anything had changed, and we saw that several customers mentioned that the staff had been rude or unwelcoming toward Latino guests. We are Latino ourselves, and that instantly made us feel unwelcomed. We also read that the restaurant had changed ownership and was no longer owned by Jeremy. We noticed that the entire staff working that evening was white, and the previous Latino manager and Latina server who usually worked on Saturdays were no longer there.
We sat for about fifteen minutes without anyone coming to our table. A waitress kept walking back and forth through the dining room setting up tables, even though we were the only guests sitting inside. She eventually came over and said, “I’m so sorry for the mix up, I didn’t see you guys here. Can I get you some water?” That comment really surprised us, because there was no one else in the dining room, so it made no sense that she “didn’t see” us sitting in the dining room. We said yes to the water, but at that point my husband and I looked at each other and agreed that we should leave.
When the server came back, she asked if we wanted to order anything, and we were honest with her. We told her that we had read the recent reviews and that the restaurant was not the same like it once was. We also mentioned the lack of attention, especially when we were the only guests inside, made us feel unwelcome. We decided to go eat somewhere else.
We went to Heroes across the street, and the experience there completely turned our night around. The staff was incredibly friendly, the food was delicious, and the live music made it even better. It might not have been the fine dining experience we originally planned for our anniversary, but it ended up being a wonderful evening thanks to their hospitality.
After we left Jeremy’s, we read more reviews online and saw that the new owner often responds to negative feedback in a very defensive way instead of trying to resolve concerns or apologize. That attitude, along with the empty dining room on a Saturday night, says a lot. We will never return to Jeremy’s...
Read moreAte here today for brother in law's birthday. We ordered the chicken schnitzel, 2 ribeye steaks, buffalo meatloaf, juicy j burger, cremini mushrooms appetizer, bread+evoo, and deviled eggs. Brother and sister in law ate the eggs pretty quick, they liked them a lot, the bread + evoo was fine but I kinda wish the bread was cut completely though instead of tearing slices apart. Ultimately it tastes the same but some slices got mangled in the process. The cremini mushrooms kinda disappointed, was mostly just small wet mushrooms, wife said there was something in the middle of the plate but it was gone by the time I saw it. She likes mushrooms but wasn't a fan of them. Not horrible by any means but not worth $16. Morher in law had the meatloaf, she said it was good but says it was pretty standard for meatloaf. I had the juicy j burger, and it really was juicy. I had put a napkin on and it saved me! It tasted good, the blue cheese hit the spot, the pork brisket had like one bite of char and it was the best bite in the whole burger, more of that would've been perfect. Only thing I'd prefer different is it to not be so tall, but that's just how they're made these days I suppose. Not a dealbreaker. The schnitzel though, it came with 2 filets, so a really nice portion of chicken, wife gave me half of one, the chicken was nice and juicy, the breading was just right, not too oily and done exactly like I like it. Could not have asked for anything better there! Brother and sister in law both got ribeyes. I'm not really into steak, I had a bite and to me it was just steak, it just isn't my thing. To them though, they've gone to lou & mickey's, butcher shop and plenty of other places and they both said it was the best steak they've ever had and definitely want to come back for it, so they definitely won then over! I had an Apple Palmer, if you're wondering, it's Apple + tea, not apple + lemonade. I'd have been happy either way, but I think the way they make it works better a bit subdued compared to the richness of the food. Will get again next time. To finish it off, I ordered the apple cobbler. The crumb was great, but dear lord the whatever they used to spice the apples brought a tear to my eye, beyond the cinnamon was something earthy and subtle that grounded it from being too rich and I'm really really really glad that no one else wanted more. I couldn't shut up about it for like 15 minutes. Service was excellent, everyone was very friendly. Ended up spending about $390 for the everything +tip for...
