Carl's Jr.'s menu holds very limited appeal to me. For food that is supposedly fast, I never seem to be able to get out of Carl's Jr. with my order in hand in any less than 15 minutes. Their lackluster burgers seemingly take just as long as Five Guys' or In-n-Out's to prepare, yet are significantly inferior in every way. The fries are a lame impression of McDonald's. Aside from the limited run of the "Babyback Rib Burger," I can't think of anything I've ever ordered for lunch or dinner at CJ's that I haven't immediately regretted. The aforementioned rib burger was like an upgraded McRib with crunchy onion straws but alas no longer available. The breakfast menu at CJ's is somewhat better. I don't hate the "Sausage Egg and Cheese Biscuit." In fact, their biscuit may be the very best biscuit in fast food currently. The egg is a bit weird, like very thinly rendered egg that has the girth and lightness of a folded napkin. Also, like a lot of fast food "yellow egg product," the flavor is more aggressively "eggy" than you'd expect -- and certainly moreso than if you scrambled an egg at home. My solution? Order without the egg. You won't miss it. This is a co-branded Green Burrito/Carl's Jr. restaurant. There exists approximately 300 of these co-branded Green Burrito/Carl's Jr. stores, almost exclusively in the western and southwestern United States. Despite being located in the middle of University City, this particular location's drive-thru intercom system is ghetto, ensuring you need to repeat your order fourteen times on average before the order-taker understands you. Other than that, I'd consider this to be an "average" Green Burrito/Carl's Jr. location.

June 17, 2024 11:20 AM to somewhere near noon. Atmosphere 3 stars because they greet every customer. Zero stars for service, because I asked for my food to be made fresh and it was not. Two employees lied, and laughed, and said everything was made fresh. Then a male worker stated the onion rings were made fresh, and that it looks the way it looks because of the ketchup, which was absurd. Two burgers looked made recently. One burger was definitely made earlier. It looked and felt hard. So none of it was made fresh. I returned one burger and the two onion rings, and requested fresh ones. Look at the picture of the original and the replaced items. My order was not made fresh. They even lied and said everything was made at the same time. The manager was respectful and polite. Yet there was no apology. The manager said he'd talk to them. The two workers laughed after the talk. Three workers then, laughed and spoke in Spanish up until I left the restaurant. I originally even gave the manager a dollar tip, or pay it forward to the next customer, because I had multiple condiments. As I got up to leave, the Postal worker sitting across from me, had a picture perfect fresh burger, fresh lettuce, fresh tomato, fresh bun. It looked like a commercial! I asked the Postal worker if she requested her sandwich be made fresh. She said no. I showed her the burger I was served, that I requested make fresh from the frozen patty. She looked shocked and laughed at the appearance of my food.

I give this Carl’s Jr. a 4/5 stars, with food being a 3/5 and service a 5/5. It’s been around for years, but changed significantly with the massive remodel about 7-8 years ago. I like the remodeled interior, which is simple but comfortable and has a decent amount of seating. The bathrooms are general clean as well. The outside look and landscaping are really quite nice for a fast food joint. The food itself leaves a lot to be desired, though I think the less complex burgers are probably some of the better menu items. The jalapeño cheeseburger is usually pretty solid, as is the big burger and famous star. The chicken tenders are pretty ‘meh’ here, as they’ve come out overly greasy and almost soggy for me a couple times. The fries are also hit or miss—when they’re good, they’re good, but when they’re bad they’re mushy and greasy. Overall a 3/5 on food, consistently good fast food service at a 5, and reasonably comfortable and aesthetic interior. Stick to the simpler items like small burgers and chicken sandwiches and you’ll be OK.

I have never written a review in my life, never thought I really would write a review, because they tend to be emotional, misleading, or unhelpful. Whoever the shift leader was at this University City Location at 3:00 pm on October 5th needs to not be a shift leader. My experience was terrible, i drove out to University City during my girlfriends break to try and use the app to get some food, and with limited time it became frustrating. I asked for the two times I wanted, the deal didn’t go through, he tried again the deal ‘didn’t work’. So I compromised and gave him different options, and it didn’t work again. It only ever worked for items that made the bill more expensive than it should have been. However, whenever I gave him an item that qualified for the discount with another item that wasn’t as expensive supposedly it didn’t work. (The deal was a welcome purchase of anything over 1 dollar, you get one item amongst a list of items for free). After wasting my time, telling me it doesn’t work, not trying anything new, me compromising, and him walking away to no longer resolve the issue, her lunch break was coming to an end, and we had to drive back and leave. (we also tried to order through the app to save the hassle, but it wouldn’t work at this location) really frustrating that the in-app offer applies to any number of items, yet apparently it would only work if we spent more than 8 dollars over the expected amount. (was meant to only be a...
