It's my pleasure to write a very positive review about this Denny's spot and its staff and management, just from my anecdotal perspective as a longtime San Diego county resident. Over the years, I've been here at all hours because it's right off the I-5, just around the corner to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, a couple of blocks from the coast and it's open 24/7. I have stopped to work on my laptop and have a real meal or sometimes just to quickly use the "loo" and grab my favorite green smoothie. I also like that they have the news going on a big screen overhead, so sometimes I just grab coffee and catch up. I've witnessed staff serving people from all walks of life, from droves of fair visitors, to the horse racing community, to exhausted middle-of-the-night ride-share drivers, to people who may have no home to go to or have had a few too many drinks at one of the local watering holes, some who seem confused and need a bit of kindness or compassion, or, on weekends especially, families with young kids. At all times, this staff, from my observation, seems to serve everyone evenly, with dignity and kindness. They are very hard-working and efficient. I was told that this staff chose to continue to work during CoVid. I haven't confirmed that but I just want to say, "Way to go, you hard-working souls." There are times when they get inundated and they sometimes run lean on staff. Don't expect perfection anywhere these days. We are in difficult times. But this Denny's is heartwarming and real. For the warmth they serve with the food, and for "being there," I say 5 stars. Shout out to Jesse P., Cindy and their manager. By the way, I also deeply appreciate that they employ older people because they are very valuable members of this team. As far as food, I usually go for the salmon with vegetables or the meat-free burger, the fruit or one of the smoothies. Photos coming....
Read moreMay I 1st offer an observation that may save u potential headache and frustration: don't look for an open place to eat at 10pm if u don't already have a spot; that being said, if u find urself in the predicament of searching for an after 10pm place to eat that isn't Mexican, or fast-food, & it seems like all hope is lost, go to the Del Mar Denny's. Even during a rush (on a Tues after 10pm), I was pleasantly welcomed & seated. It took a while for the waitress to come around, & I'm thinking the manager, Kyle, was beyond stellar! He was attentive, welcoming, apologetic (for the long wait) & obviously very busy & short staffed for, what was likely an unexpected rush. From pretty much no service, to the best service I've probably ever had, or witnessed (aside from myself, of course) was a unexpected, but much appreciated change in situation. The entire crew that night was great, the food was super tasty & the atmosphere was fun. Kyle, however, is the 1 that turned a stress into a success. And yes, they're...
Read moreOMGoosh!! This was Del Mar fair day and the drive down from Temecula, early in the morning, on an empty stomach was brutal. We stopped just outside the gate to the D.M. race track to get breakfast at Denny's and of course there was a line, but the wait was just a few minutes. Their staff got the people in and out in no time. They were jam packed, but the food came out in a timely manner and it was piping hot. Our server Robin did a great job to keep us entertained. She brought us each free freshly squeezed O.J. for being patient while waiting for our food to arrive. We did not notice a delay. We were so pleased with this Dennys that we stopped back in on our way out for some coffee and a snack. And did you know that if you are an AARP member you get 15% off your total bill when you show the cashier your card. I highly recommend the 2-4-6-8 menu items. My breakfast was 2 huge pancakes, 2 eggs, and two bacons, for $6.00. Thank you...
