Edelweiss Bakery — Restaurant in San Diego

Very, very disappointed! We were meeting friends in Vegas for a special 50th birthday! They put us in charge of the cake & a few sweet treats since we were driving & they were flying. I saw the raving reviews so chose Edelweiss & im so sorry i did. The chocolate bday cake with buttercream frosting was extremely dry & tasteless, not rich & moist like I expected. The pecan rolls were dry, hard & bland - no caramel like I expected or have seen with other bakery pecan rolls. The cinnamon bake was loaded with cinnamon, which overpowered the entire crumble (which was nothing to brag about anyways), and the chocolate chip cookies were possibly the worst I’ve ever had! I think Chips Ahoy has them beat!! They do have a beautiful display of treats that look good, and a line out the door, so they rush you through, but don’t let it fool you. I don’t understand the hype surrounding this place & was embarrassed to have told people in the group everything came from a highly rated bakery in San Diego. I would’ve rather blown my $68 in a slot machine, because all the treats ended up in the garbage, right where they belonged. Regular grocery store bakeries put out a MUCH BETTER, tastier, more moist, gooey, yummy dessert than this place could ever dream of! I’m VERY DISAPPOINTED in your bakers, Edelweiss!!! This is probably one of the best bakeries in San Diego. I came here to order a mermaid theme birthday cake, the super nice lady spent a good 15 minutes with me to go over my options and explain what they can and can't do. We came up with a beautiful idea and I emailed the design to the decorator. A few days before the event, the decorator called me to go over the design and to make sure we are on the same page as far as colors go. I was so happy with the result. The cake looked gorgeous! I also went to pick up a different costume birthday cake for my friend, and they walked the cake to my car. Their attention to details is amazing. They put non-slip mat under the cake to ensure that it doesn't move around while you drive!!! (You know how many birthday cakes I've seen get ruined during the transport?!!!!) We ordered a graduation cake today and, unfortunately, there was a bit of a miscommunication. We were told the cake would include a graduation hat, scroll, and a writing saying “Congratulations Graduates.” However, we weren’t informed that these elements would be printed as a digital image. Had we known, we would have provided a higher-quality photo ourselves.

The staff seemed to be in a bit of a hurry and didn’t ask if we had our own image that could be used. We would’ve been happy to share one if we’d known that was an option.

That said, we really like everything Edelweiss Bakery usually offers and have had great customer experiences in the past. We just feel that rushing a customer through important details like this isn’t the best way to go. A little extra time and clear communication can make a...
