My review is solely for the tamales.. I ordered to pickup and it was my first time finding a place near me that offers them. I moved from LA and there are sooo many good places there.
I'm bummed to say this will not be my spot. The masa was lumpy and the tamales has raisens. My Mama Lina would never. Olives, yes but raisens? Big nope. The meat in the tamales was very good. The pan they served with it is not pan frances, it was like pan bimbo. There was no lime given with the tamales either. It was a definite disappointment. I won't be back for this. Maybe the desayuno guatemalteco is better but I don't know. They didn't impress me.

Read moreCame here on a Friday night with my partner. We were greeted by the owner and she was extremely welcoming and answered our questions about the different menu items. I was surprised to learn this is one of the few places to get Guatemalan food here in San Diego! The restaurant is still about 4 months old, and service was pretty quick. My partner and I both ended up ordering the pepian (based on the recommendations here) and am glad to report it was fantastic. Salsa was hearty and just the right amount of spicy. Read moreI was disgusted by the quality of a nearby Colombian restaurant on the same block, that I stumbled upon El Sabor De Casa out of sheer luck. I’m so glad I did! Upon walking up I was instantly greeted with a smile and she started cleaning a nearby table for me to sit. I told her I would be getting takeout and that didn’t change the quality of the service.
