They've gone through various pricing methods since they've opened. The current one (third version?) is certainly better than the previous one with the pre made bowls because now you can just pick and choose what you want, and they price you based on the weight, Yogurt World style.
I have no idea what $0.79 per ounce means, so I tried to be conservative with what I got, but it ended up being $11 anyways. It wasn't super filling.
I like that they have rice bowls for $1, two for $1.5. I like rice, and dining halls don't give a decent amount of good rice, so this is passable.
There was a free food event with food from Fan Fan, but I didn't see many of the meat options I saw there. Whatever, maybe my eyes are bad.
The orange chicken is nice and sweet and I also like the saltiness of the white fish and the mapo tofu is good too.
What's truly interesting, though, is their midnight menu. I have yet to try it, but from what I observed and what other people there told me, it's a build your own hot pot where they charge based on the weight of the dry ingredients before they add soup. You put the ingredients in a wiped down bowl and then you wait with a buzzer until they add soup to it. It's $9.99/lb and I don't think I would get a pound of noodles, so this sets an upper limit of $10, which sounds like a great deal. I'll try it someday
Also, why does Fan Fan have a sketch 3d concept art rendering of their place as a photo for...
Read moreIt's normal for many diners to compare FanFan with PandaExpress, but you have to know that PandaExpress has grown for 40 years, and FanFan is just getting started, we have to entrust ourstomach to him. Different from Panda Express Fan-Fan has his unique, such as dim sum xiao long bao(Steamed soup dumplings), chinese vegetable(Baby bok choy) mapo tofu(Soft types) if you like seafood they have lobster tail for you to choose, I ordered fried rice with mapo tofu and kung pao chicken today typical Sichuan and Hunan dishes, these two dish represent fusion of Chinese cooking It was very delicious, the kung pao chicken test juce and tender mapo tofu is mild spicy wrapped in gravy, I highly recommended to everyone give it try, my lunch plates have two dishes and one side and the price was $9.99 reasonable price...
Read moreIgnore my user but I’m a UCSD student and I tried this place out today. The food was decent, it’s slightly better than panda express, however I payed $28 for my plate! $28!!! I only got a plate and rice (which is $1). I didn’t even pack my plate to the brim. I’d say if you come here definitely AVOID getting anything bone-heavy as I think the bones of the meat I chose really put up the weight. Anyways, I wouldn’t recommend coming here. It’s stupid expensive and unaffordable for a student and the food isn’t good enough to justify the price. They even have a tip screen even though it’s a self serve line lol. My girlfriend even got a plate and she doesn’t eat as much as me but her plate was still $20. I think I’d have to unfortunately stick...
