Well, after some moderate beer drinking in the San Diego area. We decided to head here since it was close and that it was one of those quick dining places. Quite honestly, I was not in the mood for waiting anywhere again after going to a brewery with only 1 person working.
Coming here, we for sure wanted to try their fish and chips. We got the 2 piece fish and chips around $9 that came with the side. We tried the mac salad as well as the cole slaw. We also tried a 4 piece fried scallop.
The fish and chips are above average, so was the cole slaw. You can taste that it was quite fresh and made to order. The wife that works here take your order and the husband brings it out along with a try of condiments that has malt vinegar, tarter sauce, ketchup, cocktail sauce. Yes it was a lot of sauces and all were cold as they came from a fridge. (Just the way I like it)
The fish is crunchy, long strips and you can actually see the fish. The fries are just normal fries but they don't over salt them. The cole saw here is chopped thicker than I like it but has the right amount of mayo that you don't feel gross.
You should pass on the mac salad. For me, that didn't taste fresh and the fried scallops just tasted like a fried item but I couldn't tell what.
The owner was sweet, she gave our kids some treats after they had finished their dinner. Total hole in the wall feel to this establishment. So a 4.5 star feel...
Read moreI don't know why I don't eat here more often! They used to be next door to Vons when I was a kid & we went once or twice. When Vons expanded twenty something years ago they moved across the parking lot a bit. They have batter dipped fried foods that are always fresh, crisp & delicious. One of the few places to offer fried Oysters, my favorite. Even Anthony's doesn't have fried Oysters anymore. I had been thinking of them for a while & happened to be dropping off something at the UPS store. So I walked over and ordered one fish & chip (so many fries!), the fish is a large decent size portion. Enough for one. Enough fries to share. I also got 8 fried Oysters, so good! Couldn't resist an order of fried Zucchini as well. (If memory serves, they have yummy hushpuppies too.) Of course it was too much food, didn't finish the fries or Zucchini but will be back for more. The gentleman taking my order was very nice & ket me know my order was almost ready. Takes about 15 minutes. He gave me tarter sauce, cocktail sauce, ranch & malt vinegar. I really wanted to redue the inside, kind of cluttered with supplies and such. Super nice people, love supporting local & you can't be more local than Mr....
Read moreIf you're looking for good fish and chips this is a must go to spot. It's a small spot in a clean and remodeled shopping plaza, which is very inviting in my opinion. The place is small but there's plenty of seating inside and outside. The menu is not huge but has plenty of options to choose from. They have fried fish, shrimp, oysters, scallops, & clam strips. They also have chicken strips for that non-seafood eater in the group. Sandwiches, salads, clam chowder soup are also options. I ordered the seafood combo, which had fish, shrimp, and scallops. I chose onion rings and coleslaw for my sides. Everything was so good! Everything was perfectly crispy, the fried scallops were tender and not chewy like most places, and the batter was nice and light almost like tempura. The coleslaw had a slight bite to it, maybe a hint of horseradish but not overpowering at all. They also make their own hot sauce and it is delicious. And not to mention, their customer service is amazing! The employees were so friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great...
