After 30 years of being a regular customer of Papas Pizza it saddens me to find myself having to provide a one star review and that one star is only provided out of respect for the many visits that I made where there were no issues. I moved to Bay Ho ('the best kept secret in San Diego') in December of 1989 and have been a customer of Papas Pizza at least once a week since then. just to offer my honest experience with the establishment. Over the last 30+ years with an average of one visit a week I have over 1,500 visits to reflect on. The issue that ruined a 30 year relationship began with a Calzon not having the extras that were ordered and paid for. Not the end of the world but when calling to point out the error they respond by treating customers with hositility. I ad this same problem with them years ago on a sandwich order but choose to ignore the way they treated me when I called to point out the problem. Papas Pizza has good food but zero customer service. If you are willing to blindly pay for food that was not made as you ordered without question then you will be happy with this place. After this disagreement I didn't place an order for 6 months and when I finally did call in for an order they hung up on me and have hung up on my nephew when he called to order a sandwich a few months later. A pretty extreme and unusual way to treat a one time very loyal customer. How do you feel about this...

This is a local joint that's pretty hidden in Clairemont Mesa. Most that frequent here know this place for coupons and delivery. I did the complete opposite and dined in. The small dining room area could accommodate about 5 groups and is surprisingly clean and bright, but other than that the amenities are pretty bare. A request for water would come with a disclaimer that it's straight from the tap, but adversely no offer for ice. Funny is that when our salad came out it was a big bowl and 3 forks. We had to ask for plates the next time he came and dropped off our garlic bread. The garlic bread was a bit plain, with barely any garlic flavor to remember. Spaghetti was pretty traditional, but had a familiar from-the-can feel. Still palatable nonetheless. The pizza redeemed this place a bit. The others proclaimed an abundance of sauce and cheese, but I did not have the same experience. If anything, I felt the flavor of the sauce was lacking. The bread was also pretty standard with no notable flavors or texture. I would probably consider other places before I return, but if the after-coupon price is right, this is a college...
Read moreYou don't come here for the atmosphere, you don't come here for the service. You come here for some of the best pizza in the Clairmont/Balboa area near by. Does it take a while for them to make your pizza? Yes. Is it absolutely worth the wait? YES it saddens me that this place has 4.1 stars when the quality of their pizza is absolutely worth 4.6, and I've been having their pizza for over 3.5 years now. The first pizza I got has Mushrooms and Artichoke hearts on it and immediately I fell in love with Papas Pizza, they are not a big chain that can make a fake pizza in a matter of minutes, they are a place you go for quality pizza and that's hard to find. Good cheese, good toppings, good everything. I'm a thin crust or no pizza kinda guy, unless it's Papa's Pizza. I will gladly eat their pizza every time I order or see it brought home to reheat. Don't let the 4.1 rating fool you, this place pumps out some really, genuinely mouthwatering pizza, it just takes them a little longer than other places but is 110% worth the...
